Spending big (for us anyway) on transfers has often not worked out well. Rodrigo is the latest example. Bamford is obviously first choice CF and is a certain type of CF. Rodrigo is a slightly different type of striker in my view so unless MB saw him as able to adapt to the no 10 playmaker role I cannot understand his signing. You do not make your most expensive signing ever with a view to him being a back up to your main CF surely?
We seem to make a big signing just to prove we are a PL team now and "splash the cash" instead of buying players to fill positions where we are clearly short (eg midfield). Signing another winger DJ is a classic example of this

With more rainy match days forecast, these are much needed.

I personally thought we played well against Everton, and we're good value for something from that game. Burnley we weren't great, but we were fortunate to beat them at ER last season, and they play a way that we have to play against.

Everton was the best of the performances, certainly, but form me it was middle of the road. I didn't think we created enough with the possession and were vulnerable on the break. See your point though... we had the possession and they had the better chances.

Many of you on here slated chris wood, Patrick Bamford and jack harrison for the first 12-18 months after signing them.
Shows what you lot know.
Just sometimes it takes time.
You can expect class and performance immediately when you spend £50m+.
We’re not in that ballpark yet but our squad is good enough to keep us in this league for the next 2/3 years, by which time we will be able to start looking at those kinds of transfer fees.
Till then, suck on your dummies and stop expecting to be fed on demand. You’re not 3 years old.

Why 50 million, why not 40 million, why not 27.3 million?

You cannot make that prediction with this squad.

Ronaldo fee was 12 mill, should you not expect class from that because its less than 50 mill?

It's far too simplistic and tries to excuse that we've made some poor expensive signings.

Ronaldo also gets paid 600k a week, or something ridiculous, so yes I would expect class for that.

Rumours now that Man City have their eyes on KP.
Pep's a big fan. He would fit his system too. That idea
that both KP and Raph could be gone next summer
seems more likely right now. Hope it doesn't happen.

Doubt City would pay what we would ask for a player who, if we are being honest, wouldn't start regularly.

Reports I've seen so far have all been from clickbait sources, too.

How many here would pay 100m for Bellingham?..

That's what Dortmund want!..

And how much is Phillips worth?..

I think City are after him for 26m!..

Its all well when people say we're spending to much on not the best, but the best cost a hell off a site more then what we have, and players brought in, thinking about it they haven't really played all together for a long length off time, they're good players and will get it together!..

As for the ManU player that lots seem to do one over, would he do as well around a lower club than the one he's at!..

Sometimes the players around you bring that bit more out off you, but it takes time for a club that's been to hell and back to get to the standerd needed to get that class off player!..

AR and Co have brought this club forward and it'll take a bit more time to get to where people reckon we should be at this time!..

Christ, hope Cellino doesn't make a bid, imagine him back, we'd be buying 11 below average Italians and Phillips would be the first out!..

I can. Anyone who’s not blind can see this squad, with Bielsa, won’t have a problem staying up this year.
And as regards you £50m/£40m comment, you are fully aware of the point being made…if you can’t afford the premium players, you have no choice but to work with those you can afford, and you’re never gonna get the same kind guarantee of the level of performance you’ll get.
…and as for the Ronaldo comment 🤦🏼

What about Ayling? Odd moment of brilliance but most of the time can't make a pass and always a bit cowardly
