joke but was expected

maybe due to var?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Think its been confirmed that VAR didn't get involved? Klopp did, though. Probably what swung it. That and the fact we are Leeds.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Klopp had nothing to do with the football association upholding a red card.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why the fack would Klopp care if Leeds can put out their strongest team v other teams?

I don’t care.

Its nice to affirm that the irritation I inspire applies to fans of other clubs, and not just my own!

He misses 2 league games which is better than 3. The 3rd game is against Fulham in the League Cup. Another incentive to progress I guess, suspension currency

I wonder whether anyone watched the U21 game last night, Nohan Kenneh was laid out by what can only be described as a punch and the perpetrator wasn't even booked, he was able to play on but that's not the point.
Appalling standard of refereeing through-out the English game.

I think the refs are essential to the game and get increasingly blamed for the rules. By and large i think they do a good job - inconsistent possibly, but not helped by the play acting, downright cheating and abuse they get from all corners of a match each time.

quite right, but this was a strange one... he didn't give a foul and wasn't playing advantage

Yep, agreed - it was strange and i wasn't comfortable with Klopp going on the pitch - why he wasn't ushered away (probably severity of the injury gave him leeway with the ref?). Did leave me wondering at the time if he influenced the red card ....

The whole incident i'm not convinced was correct, but that's just my view as a fan.

Main thing is that Elliott appears to have been treated well and looks positive - his health and career, bottom line, were and are the primary concern.

We just have to move on, decision made.

I think the general consensus from those who understand the game is that it wasn’t a foul and was just bad luck on Elliott’s account.

We also know the those in charge of the game, whether it be the FA, EPL, FIFA or UEFA, have absolutely no idea what they are doing 99% of the time. Money is the only thing that interests them.

But a VOF says - it’s done and dusted now. Time to concentrate on the future of the lad, Elliott and move onto the next game.

What about Struijks mental health?

Psychological aspect could hurt him a bit, not wanting to commit in a tackle, especially early on. Eveyone is on his side so he should be ok, its not like it was a disgusting tackle or anything, just unfortunate.

posted on 15/9/21

It wasn't a very clever tackle at all as it gave absolutely no consideration to his trailing leg given the angle.

posted on 15/9/21

I’d accept that this was a red card if other tackles were getting punished the same. Consistency of officiating in England is dreadful.

Burnley fly into awful tackles every game - one on Dallas could have broken his leg, off the ground, only a yellow card. The one on Monday against Richarlison wasn’t even given a yellow. Burnley haven’t had a red card in 93 games!

I don’t believe there is some conspiracy against Leeds but we are well in debt to get some decisions go our way.

I think this decision is absolutely scandalous.
How can a player be sent off when he has not in the opinion of the referee fouled an opponent.
Its absolutely laughable.
I would accept this decision if the referee had blown immediately for a foul. From there it is down to how the referee interprets the law. Is it a lunge? Is there excessive force? Is he putting the opponent at risk? If the referee feels he is then one accepts it and moves on.
It is clear though the referee did not even think it was a foul. Play continued until Salah reaction made him stop play.

In my opinion it was not even a foul.
If I was to accept that some people do think it was a foul then i do not think there was excessive force nor putting the opponent at risk.

It is absolutely ludicrous.
Is there an explanation as to why the referee did not blow for a foul?
Is there an explanation as to why Klopp was not sent off for entering the field of play without the referees consent?
Is there an explanation as to why the referee effectively changed his mind from "not a free-kick" to "red card" because the player was injured?

I am absolutely seething at this. Absolutely stinks.
Its bad enough that this league has become like Formula One and gets worse with every season and then you see different clubs getting different decisions for the same offence.
I repeat that makes us 0-4 on key decisions already this season.

I think Elliott, saying what he did, will have gone a long way to helping Pascal deal with the accident.

Hopefully he can put it behind him and realise that type of injury can happen any time in any game.

Anyway - to lighten the mood - we’ve just been to Wetherby and bumped into Kalvin. What an awesome Lamborghini SUV he has. He then walked past us whilst we were having a coffee and smiled at my wife when she waved and I gave him the Leeds salute.

He looked knackered though. Maybe a hard day on the training pitch.

Trailing leg my @rse, go and look at all the Liverpool tackles in this game and see how much consideration was given to the trailing leg. Liverpool fans are the only ones I've heard saying this was a deserved red card – neutrals, almost to a man, are describing this decision as laughable, as is the admirably honest Elliot.

Just a pitty Elliott wont.

It is a pity. I feel for him. He's show more class than most associated with Liverpool around the issue.

It's interesting this Kammy because he is asking the FA to justify the decision they came to, to explain it. Why they felt that a perfectly fair challenge, albeit one that unfortunately left Elliott with a dislocated ankle, that the referee originally didn't think merited a booking, that the injured person didn't think was worthy of a red card and where the professionals commentating agreed with the injured party, merited a ban.
This degree of transparency would draw a line in the sand.
I would like the powers that be to be even more transparent and explain why Burnley virtually got away with murder and Fernandinho got away scot free having assaulted Rapha last season.
The disciplinary committee should have to explain their decisions both when they have acted and when they have done sweet FA.

yup he's trying to draw them out & justify the decision

When it happened and i saw the injury i was angry, when i saw the replay i felt it was a desperate tackle from behind which 99% of the time means you're going to take the player out from behind before you do the ball or at the very best same time. But its a tackle we see all the time and will continue to do so from everyteam our own included.

It was an unfortunate injury and i dont think leeds can have any complaints of the red for the game however the suspension should have been overturned. It wasnt malicious or anything and the suspension no longer benefits Liverpool anyway.
