Penalty and red overturned

Wasn't a penalty for me, Walker put himself between man and ball. Good defending in the end.

I am sure the Maidenhead fans will have opinions on this.

Yes Maidenhead United gets most traffic on here.

The comedy duo tubster moss and twatkinson wasnt it? Anythings possible with them two clowns in charge.

Anyway i thought it was soft but walker barely complained which says a lot, it was more of a pen than it was a fair tackle and i was surprised it was overturned though. Red card could have been overturned but the penalty wasnt a clear and obvious error since walker took man and no ball.

Motd all 3 pundits felt the same apparently too.

FFS yes just realised I selected Maidenhead after all that

Yeah I'm with that. Not sure how the red was given to begin with tbh

Doesn't look like a pen to me. Player is well on the way down prior to any contact

Not sure about a red card but it's a blatant penalty. Put's his leg in front of the Southampton players leg and trips him over. Walker didn't even complain, he knew he messed up.

It's a penalty in Europe but not in England. Why? Because the English League(s) are supposed to be more macho. That's why. Not a red card.

I'm surprised the ref went and relooked at it...I'm even more surprised that he thought it was a and finally I'm amazed he overturned the pen... because it clearly was

If that's not a pen then I must have been teleported to another universe where that isn't a pen.

Not a red card IMO but for me I just don't see how anyone can argue it's not a pen with a straight face. Sometimes people just like to be contrarian.

It was given against City and VARdiola, so it wasn’t allowed. Therefore overturned and an apology to Pep.

Definitely a Red card and a penalty, how on earth it wasn’t given!

At one point I thought City’s offside goal was going to get overruled with how long it took to review it, it was if they were desperate to find some reason to give it!!

No doubt there’ll be a smaller bung sent to whoever was the reviewer! 😜

This is bang on. For some reason VAR do everything they can to help City, including a 6 minute review of Sterling’s clear as day offside. You could just imagine it now, those at Stockley Park drooling at the mouth trying to find an angle in which they could give it. VARdiola will probably have a conference call with them today and fire them all.

Barry would have written the above as a tongue in cheek peice...Culer actually believes this though, & will not be told otherwise

Looked like a pen and given the ref gave it, why go back?

Well after they didn’t give a clear foul on Fernandes dor Southamptons goal, the most clearest foul of the game then it is unlikely they will give a penalty for Walker putting his legs ahead of the attacker although pens have been given for less this season.

It’s never a pen. Player dived long before any contact was made

Thought the ref/VAR got both key decisions right. The Saints players poor touch had meant he wasn’t in control of the ball and then was the one making contact, not Walker. The got the offside right too.

Left foot cocked and ready to shoot then gets clattered by Walker.
Penalty.

If you'd watched the whole game you'd have noticed that the Southampton players were timewasting from the 5th minute onwards and one of their players collapsed to the floor everytime City went on the attack only to miracously rise up as soon as any threat was over.

Jon Moss had a good game and waved play on 5/6 time when a Soton player was rolling around 'Italian Style' when they'd lost the ball.

I was amazed when he initially gave a penalty but not surprised when he was quite happy to review the challange and recind the red card.

Southampton actually played some decent football but virtually killed the game with their gamesmanship, Ralph really has them well drilled on that front.

I didn't think it was a penalty. The saints player initiates contact.

It was the sort of thing they'd been doing all game.
