A sad day for football, whoever you support. Absolutely magnificent footballer whose wit and character shine through alongside Ian St John.

Times like this we should come together to celebrate one of the true greats who graced both our clubs!

Totally agree. Even the BBC seem to be pushing his background towards being a Chelsea player. Yes he may have started there, but come on BBC, Greavsie was recognsed as Spurs 100%, even if that doesn't fit your current agenda.
As for memories, yes I am one of the "old timers" on here who had the privilage ( and memories ) of watching him play. Yes it was towards the latter part of his career, but even then he was still a hell of a player.
Defenses where absolutely s**t scared of him, and he would certainly be up there with the Messi's of this world if playing now.
My last recollection of watching him was a game at West Ham, where Spurs won 1-0 and, of course, he scored the goal. I think it would have been early to 70's. I know I was around 15/16 at the time. The game also included Moore, Hurst, Perryman, Gilzean etc.
Great times to be a fan, not like the commercialised, bias, grab every penny you have got, rubbish we all have to put up with now.

I mean the headline is ‘England and Tottenham striker’ and the article includes both Spurs and Kane’s tweets. It doesn’t seem like they’re ignoring us to me.
A quote from Jimmy I stole from a friend's Facebook page.
“Football supporters ask me where I played my best football.
Chelsea fans say “Chelsea”,
Tottenham fans say “Tottenham “.
West Ham fans say “Chelsea or Tottenham”.”
I think it speaks a lot to the man that he played for both Chelsea and Spurs and that is not a dent on his record for either set of supporters

Very true, both sets of fans adore him.
My memories of seeing Jimmy play in the flesh (rather than on film) were with Spurs and West Ham towards the end of his career. One of the things that I liked about him the most was that it was all so effortless and easy for him to score goals at any level. He wasn't interested in 30 yarders breaking the net or showboating extravaganza's or god forbid rabonas or flash tricks, he would simply pass the ball into the net with a modicum of effort leaving goalkeepers and defenders floundering. He would continue to do this many times during a match and quite simply take the result away from the opposition.
An absolute legend for both of our clubs. RIP

My favourite Spurs player of all time and genuinely the greatest ever goal scorer in English football.
He was a modest and also very funny man, who never showboated or looked down on others. Amazingly for a smoker and heavy drinker he could still leave others standing on the pitch.
The good thing about this afternoons game is that his most successful spells were at both clubs, and he was a Chelsea legend as much as he was with us.
