This Time Last Year

We have had the toughest fixtures as well because we usually struggle to break down teams towards the bottom of the table. We have now played 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th placed teams, the toughest ones to beat. So once we get some easier fixtures against Liverpool, City and Chelsea, we should start winning more easily.

Good article. But unless we win a trophy for this improved start, I think it will fall on deaf ears.

I’m pretty sure Chelsea will win it, you guys will be second or third.

The issue is I think City will buy Haaland next summer and will win it comfortably

The performance yesterday, at least in the first half, was much better than any of our previous away displays. It was also against a stronger opponent. So hopefully that's a sign that we're beginning to pick up.

I think we do need to win something this season as well, hopefully we do. Ole has improved the personnel, recruited a few serial winners. Let's hope

I agree, we played much better yesterday, created a lot of chances, just unlucky not to score more, could have had a couple of pens. West Ham are a very good side these days, especially at home. There's promising signs

Chelsea have started well, but don't think any team has looked overly 'special' or anything yet.

Who knows where Mino and Haaland want to go next year, literally could be between 5 or more teams

We completely dominated 4 of the 5 league games. It is only the Wolves game we were poor in and funnily enough that is our only clean sheet of the season.

Having said that we are 2 points down on the same fixtures from last season but you could say that was due to us missing 3 sitters at Southampton and them scoring an illegal lucky goal.

Yeah. We aren't winning the league, and cup competitions are a lottery. It's 1990 time for Ole...

I think the real test will come in October and November when we play the top teams. If we get through them and still near enough the top, then I'd say there's been good progress.

I've still got you for 4th, I think you'll be gassed again come the end of the season, but we will see. Bit of luck never hurts and although I thought Utd should have had a penalty themselves De Gea saving one is certainly a turn up for the books.

I believe we will get better by the next month. The midfield wont improve much but the attack and more importantly the defence will improve. Ole's teams are famed for their slow starts.

I think we have a bit more squad depth, especially up front, to deal with an possibility of getting gassed.

Also, we only took our foot of the pedal once we were basically secured 4th and concentrated on our tournaments.

I agree. Knowing Ole's teams do have slow starts, it makes me cautiously optimistic knowing we have gotten 13 out of a possible 15 so far.

Pretty much this. You can see we are a much better outfit. Lots more fluidity and better understanding. Yes slow at times in play but grinding out wins and with a better core group of players.

As has been stated, he needs to win something whilst having a real sustained title challenge or question should be asked as hes in my mind now had enough time and the players on the whole are his own.

Shame we have a forum base of babies though to not think logically or objectively.

______

They've been spoilt. They want fast success, everything now, can't be bothered for the rebuild to happen and will celebrate the losses more than the wins. The board is always very quiet after a win. They like to get onto Ole for mistakes but never give him credit (ie. his subs yesterday were winning ones)

I don’t think we’ll be gassed we have arguably the strongest squad in the league. If any of the top 4 will be running out of steam it will be Liverpool’s paper thin squad.

Ha ha, it is, isn't it? There's not actually that many of them, but what they lack in numbers they make up for in sheer monotonous repetitive petulance.

I don't think Utd have anywhere the strongest squad in the league but more importantly the first team has at least tow players who wouldn't get anywhere near City's, Liverpool's or Chelsea's first team and despite squads being important, they're not as important as the first 11.

You know what they say about those who shout the loudest...

I would like one of them acknowledge and give praise to Ole for his subs yesterday.

Unfortunately for Ole judgement time is already upon him this season and by his own admission and I think this squad is just one transfer window away from being the real deal. We really need to bolster Central Midfield and get a attacking minded Right Back to work with Sancho to seriously win the PL/CL. This is why the FLC (starting vs WestHam on Weds), and the FA Cup are vital for Ole just to get the monkey of his back and win a feckin trophy THIS season to try and keep the bed wetters at bay.

But then of course.. you never really know in football.

I still think United will fall just short in the end, but certainly on the right path, just seems to be missing something. Whether it's the midfield, the manager, both etc.

It's still early days though, so much can change and obviously the start for United is better than last year. In terms of performances though, not a great deal seems to have changed from last season. United still seem a little inconsistent across all competitions still.

Probably the fourth best squad, so probably should finish fourth, agree.

Football doesn't always work like that though. Teams gel and develop, or drop away, as the season progresses, it's not a spreadsheet.
