May need some help here.......but if I recall correctly the original concept of the Premiership was to be a closed shop of 20 teams.

The rest of the football league and most of the "lower" premiership ie those in risk of demotion objected and hence the emollient of the parachute payments.

They were presumably designed to keep the upper echelons sweet and not intended as an incentive to "Championship" clubs to overspend. Some mistake!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Heb, there was certainly no intent to encourage overspending anywhere but, as you know, that is what has happened/is happening. Your understanding may be correct as to the early Prem years but I think concepts altered with time. I may be wrong but now I believe that the paras are designed to protect relegated Prem sides from possible bankruptcy because of the contracts dished out to Prem players. They want to ensure that those contracts can be honoured following any relegation. The hard facts are, however, that some Champ clubs and "lesser" Prem clubs are drawn into overspending either to get to the "promised land" or sustain their access to the golden goose as the case may be. It must be great for "lesser" Prem clubs to know that if they get it wrong and go down then it won't be too drastic financially and they will have a grossly unfair advantage over the rest of the Championship.

Never been a Rooney fan but his fighting talk is what the club needs. Leeds were hit with an EFL 15 point deduction in 2007 but finished that season 5th and in the playoffs, although it was League 1. All hope is certainly not lost with Derby. You're only 9 points off safety with a whole season left to play. Good luck!

Thanks Peakwhite, we are going to need all the luck that's going. But there could still be a further 9 points deduction (total = 21) and if that happens it seems relegation will be a certainty.

We will take it on the chin no matter what and whilst we are all Derby till we die, Derby County will never die.

Just as a matter of interest, Morris is a Freemason, and if the administrators that he appointed are also Masons,
there first priority will be to protect the interests or a fellow Mason, and everybody else comes a distant second.
If that is the case, I can see Morris hanging on to all the assets of the club very nicely.
Reading between the lines he has deliberately engineered it this way.

UTC. Think you are imbuing Mel with more intelligence and business acumen than he has ever demonstrated as chairman of Derby.

Think Mel is more likely to be in the Catenians or Opus Dei.

They make Freemasons look like amateurs in the 'scratch ya back' stakes.

What was MM's claim to fame before his Candy Crush days?

I presume he wasn't short of a few bob beforehand?

Managed a floor and tiling firm in Spain, set up a dating site which he sold for 100 million. Then helped set up KIng which developed Candy Crush which he sold for 450 million. I thought I read somewhere that he started work as an apprentice at Qualcast. That may or not be true. Sounds as if he was in the right place at the right time a couple of times and that gave him ideas that he was invincible.

I bet he didn’t cut it at Qualcast

---------------------------------------------------------------------The Masons are the most corrupt organisation in the world.
Anyone with wealth, power, or influence is invited to be a Mason.
Senior police, the judiciary MPs anyone with influence who can pull strings are invited to be a Mason.
The only people exempt from that criteria are former special forces who carry out the dirty work.
If you don't believe it, that is ok, but it is perfectly true.

UTC, you should join up with TEG, and yes I don't believe it because it is not perfectly true. I used to work in a company with plenty of Masons. They do assist fellow members it is true but not everyone who has made it is a Mason and not every Mason is in it for power and wealth. At least you haven't gone in to the illuminati or the Qanon beliefs in a satanic cabal of paedophiles.

I am not a Mason. My father was an Ancient Druid but I have never dabbled with such geriatric frat groups. Besides it costs a hell of a lot of money to be a Mason.

Good, you can spend what you've saved on a pint for me tomorrow. About 11:45, Sheffield Midland Tap.

Can'y get a ticket for tomorrow's game, otherwise I would. Club colours not allowed in the Sheffield Tap by the way. Lay off the Jaipur otherwise you will be sleeping most of the game.

I had a couple of pints of Jaipur in a bar in Sweden a few weeks ago, £9 a pint!

In a bar in Malmo, across from the depot
Scouse ordered two pints of Jaipur
On the first sip he tasted, he thought he'd get wasted,
And fall down flat on the floor
When the bill finally hit him, he said "I'm no quitter
But he gave up and went off to bed
"I'm hungry for bitter. but this is a **itter
I'll drink it Sheffield instead"..

With apologies to Kenny Rogers.

Not a bad effort Spart, but I'm not greedy, I only ordered them one at a time, (and they did go down nicely with a curry).

Wrong city though, not even close.

Malmo is the only one that sounds anything like Toledo. A bar in jonkoping didn't quite do it. Apperently there is a place called Orebro which would scan better but no one has heard of it.
