Yep.

I thought they might leave it ambiguous ,where they showed the missiles coming to the base but left it open that he could have escaped. It was pretty definitive in reality though

The female 007 was ok I guess, apart from that one scene where she murdered the scientist and said it was 'time to die'. So cringe.

Felix Leiter

It’s not just that it was definitive - it’s also that, as reviewers have said, to now claim that he didn’t die would rob the ending of its emotional weight. I thought that whole Heracles/nanobot thing was a bit contrived just so they could get to that ending really, but I enjoyed the film around all that.

Agree about that line of Nomi’s as well.

I felt that killing off both Felix Leiter and Bond in the same movie was a bit OTT. In fact seeing Leiter die somewhat took away from the emotional impact of seeing Bond die at the end. Just my take on it.

Indeed

Am I the only one who expected it though ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I was pretty sure it was happening when he agreed to come back and the title was announced, and as soon as you see the red tube in the third act with the DNA strand you knew Bond would be poisoned. Only question was whether he would somehow luck his way out and appear in a stinger post credit scene.

So Craig's Bond is set it's own individual universe and not connected to all the previous Bond movies which are all set in another universe. Amirite?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I kind of feel like they’re all in their own universe. Craig’s belong/fit with each other more than the rest though. I can’t help but think they’ll have to reboot the franchise entirely when they get the new actor in.

The movie is overstuffed, overlong, has multiple plot holes, and is wildly erratic in tone. It also in many ways spits on the Bond lore.

However it was also deeply compelling, and I bought the emotional arc completely. I didn’t ‘cry’ but I felt my eyes water at the end. The central thing they had to get the right, they nailed, and I was swept up in it tbh.

I am bored of people drowning, it is too overly used in movies as a death method.

Yes, but I think that has always been the case since they rebooted it

I wondered if the way Felix died was meant to remind Bond of Vesper’s demise.

Probably.

It was also that they could not blow someone to smithereens in a 12A movie and make it look convincing.

As far as I can tell Connery, Lazenby, Moore, Dalton and Brosnan are all playing the same version of Bond. With Craig playing his own version of Bond where he never meets or gets married to Tracey etc.

And they never meet Vesper

Continuity has never much mattered to Bond.

The first 20 movies have lots of rules and traditions regarding the car, bond girls, M, the globetrotting, the gadgets and NOT DYING AT THE END....

but very few bits of 'canon', the movies pre-Craig were always flexible about that.

The Craig Bond story stands apart from the rest though in terms of story itself as we see him from his beginning when he's still a 0 agent as opposed to a 00, all the way through to his death. Neither things were shown in any other Bond movie.

Maybe the next Bond movies could go a step further and begin even before he's a 0 agent where he's still trying to get into the secret service and what adventures lead him to that point.

Personally I'd also like to see the next batch of movies set in the 1950's and 60's where Bond was created.

This is obviously the most definitive point that a Bond movie has ever reached, in that they could go pretty much anywhere with this franchise now.

Female Bond, gay Bond, black Bond, never make another Bond at all, I can't see them going back to the sixties really, with established M Q Moneypenny in place, but they might do a prequel with Bond being orphaned & brought up with 'future Blofeld' as children

I have enjoyed Craig as Bond immensely, & quite honestly I don't know where they go for a lead, if it's reprised, I wasn't even all that aware of Daniel Craig pre Casino Royale if i'm honest...so a newby might work well instead of the endless list of actors that have been linked thus far

Tbh I doubt that the actors who've been playing M, Q and Moneypenny will carry on. Bond is dead in that universe so I think that's the end of the Craig era Bond and all those who participated in those movies. Unless they want to do something silly and make Tanner the next 007 or some other terrible idea lol.

I honestly also expect clean slate.

New Bond.

New Q, new Moneypenny, new M.

Wont even reference Craig era, might tie into the first 20 movies though.

Also possible it will be a whole new arc separate to both.

Personal preference is a period piece.

Went to see it on the first day 00:01 showing. I quite liked the ending, stranded and doomed, but got the girls to safety. His family lives on. And as we now know, a new 007 will be selected, so Craig's end isn't necessarily an end of bond. A lot of good characters were killed off though.
Why lose Felix? Hope Q isn't changed now. Also the car chases were good but why were so many 4x4's in this one?

So guess I’m gonna through 45 pages here…
Right now, I do have all the time in world, so here goes.

Right then, I’m very conflicted about it.
The end of Bond doesn’t bother me so much, they rebooted Bond with Craig anyway, so, him having closure works.
People accept multiple versions of Batman, so why cant it work for Bond. I always saw the new guy as them rebooting.
Technically another great looking film. But the story or how it played out didn’t work for me.
Never thought this film would be more of a love story, and the villain being background fodder.
But I can’t say the films rubbish, although there were bits that annoyed me.
Ana des Armas was easily the best, loved her character. The whole opening before the Credits were very good.
But when it finished I was just, ok.
Craig was a very good Bond. But I guess I just wanted more fun.

They could simply reboot it. Problem solved.

Though I'd prefer they keep most of the existing supporting cast.
