I was only around 8 or 9 when Toddy arrived but I remember marvelling at how good he was. Some players just make your jaw drop. Charlie was another one like that, just on another level. Since then we have been lucky enough to see some very good players indeed - Baiano, Eranio, Asanovic and McGrath for example - but I don't think we will ever have players again who you felt were the best that there were, anywhere.

I'm afraid you are right, Vidal. Those days are gone for good unless the whole financial structure of all the Leagues reverts to something like it was before Sky got involved.

I well remember going to the old BBG with the adrenaline pumping just at the thought of watching the team of Toddy, Roy Mac etc . I never had that feeling again after Docherty wreaked his havoc, not even under Jim Smith although his acquisitions as mentioned by you were really good.

We played against the best in the best league in the world in those days and we were hugely feared by such as Arsenal, Liverpool, Leeds, Chelsea and the rest. I clearly remember Hughes (the Liverpool skipper) bemoaning the fact that, straight after they had won. their FA Cup round they found out that their next round was V Derby County and thus had no time to celebrate with such a tough next fixture. This was his comment on an experiment to hold the draw just after the Saturday games were finished. We were truly a great team in those years.

So right, Ramdini though if my memory is correct Liverpool did beat us in that next round at the BBG.

Not if it was 1975-76, Chicago. We beat Everton, then Liverpool, Southend and Newcastle, all at home, before Charlie broke his arm and that awful day at Hillsborough.

Oh crumb, I've no idea Vidal! I have no records available. All I remember is listening to the draw and there were microphones in the Liverpool dressing room. When Pool were drawn agin us at the BBG Hughesie let out a huge "OH no!" That made me think it was in the bag but I'm certain we lost. Maybe we are looking at different seasons? I certainly remember Charlie's injury but wasn't it a dislocated shoulder? He was never the same again.

It was both, actually, a dislocated shoulder and elbow fracture. Midweek game vs Stoke. And I think the Cup match vs Liverpool was indeed the one we won, I'm pretty sure we didn't play them otherwise in that period. 1-0 Roger Davies. I was right behind the net in the Normanton end where it went in, the same spot I was in when Charlie scored his great goal against Real Madrid.

Well I'm not going to argue because I can't. I'm certainly not querying that goal by Charlie - what a beaut and what a night!

Can't somebody find these iconic goals somewhere and show them to the rest of our fans?
