Beat me to it BH.

We literally aren't strong in batting, bowling or fielding. We're gonna get bummed.

On a more specific level, you wonder what on earth Sam Hain or Rob Yates could do to get in the side, but equally it won't do them any harm long term to miss the upcoming mauling.

You'd hope this will mark Bairstow's last chance and Foakes will finally get his chance after this tour.

And Crawley and Bess should be nowhere near the tour - they've been dire for England for extended periods. A short period of OK County form shouldn't have got Crawley back in, just like it didn't book Sibley a place back in the squad either.

I'll repeat: we're gonna get bummed.

I remember thinking a year ago we were in an ok spot for the Ashes, not to win, but to be competitive and maybe go down fighting 3-1 or something. The last year though I don't think could have gone worse.

Sibley and Crawley both failing, injuries to Stone and Archer, no Stokes again, Leach not even playing a single home test this summer and now we expect him to go to Australia and do the business

No idea how Bess has made the squad over Parkinson, and I'd have taken Mahmood to give a bit more pace.

Injuries haven't helped but it's quite remarkable we're basically sending the same pace attack that got pumped in 17/18.

It's gonna be pretty depressing that when we finally get Labuschagne out, we'll see Smith striding out to take his place... Honestly dreading the headlines we'll be waking up to every day

Having our strongest squad is all well and good but I don't fancy our chances of avoiding heavy defeat. We need to bat big and only Root has shown an ability to do that on a consistent basis. Even if he bats well, we'll lose unless others put their hands up. However if he has a below par series then we're in real trouble.

Despite Crawley being poor for a while, he could do quite well over there if he's given a chance (although he doesn't deserve to start the first test). I'd have selected Vince over Lawrence personally but calls like that aren't going to change the outcome of the series so I'm not really bothered by it.

Leach absolutely needs to play as it's going to be a slog for the bowlers. I'll be really annoyed if we go with Bess to just us a bit more batting.

Robinson, Jimmy, Wood and Woakes is a high class seam attack but unless Robinson turns out to be a tormentor for Smith and Labuschagne then it's going to be long days in the field for our boys.

Just can't understand not taking Mahmood. He's not 90mph+ but he can regularly bowl 87/88 and there's no way Wood will be able to play all 5 tests.

I get debuting him in Aus is risky but he seems he has the temperament for the challenge and has been excellent in county this year.

I'm sure Mahmood picked up an injury at the very end of the season, I can't remember whether it was the final or the penultimate game but that may well be a reason why he wasn't considered. I'd also say there's still a lot that could potentially happen and we may get a few drop outs before they tour.

Rob Yates will certainly be on England's radar and whilst his average as a whole isn't great, he's had a very good year opening for the champions and finished very strongly. It'll be interesting to see how he develops his game as I'm sure he bats at a pretty similar pace to Sibley although the pair of them showed more proactivity towards the end of the season. It'll be interesting to see how that pair develop next season.

Hain really is a bizarre one, he should have played for England's T20 and ODI sides already by now. He's only 26 so I'd be amazed if we don't see him in an England shirt at some point in the next 2 years. Whether he gets a test call up in that time remains to be seen but if he doesn't at least feature for the ODI side, I'll be amazed.

I would have picked Livingstone and crane ahead of Lawrence and Bess. Would have added a left arm seamer too. I don't know much about him but heard Garton is decent. The named squad looks very one dimensional in the bowling dept and the batting is very weak. Another 5-0.

We will get stuffed, a lack of express pace bowlers and a dodgy top order. Broad in my opinion is past it, he looked like he has lost something this summer and the conditions will not suit Anderson and Woakes. God knows who is scoring the runs if Root, Malan and Bairstow don`t.

I can see Pope doing quite well on Aussie pitches as he was excellent in SA where pitches are probably the most similar.

Actually reckon the batting will do alright this time, it's the bowling where we'll lose the series.

Yeah I mean more I can see them regularly posting 400/450 and doing better than last time, but I also see Australia regularly hitting 550+ with our bowling attack.

It'll probably be a road at the MCG so I reckon that may end as a draw. I actually think these pitches will suit Crawley and much like Vince, he would do OK out there but he's behind Hameed and Malan now.

Yeah I'd have taken Vince over Lawrence (and I rate him highly but he's not ready to come back into the test arena yet) and I think Crawley may not be the worst option to come in if 1 of the top 3 struggle.

Think Livingstone is going to be one of these players who is pigeon holed into the ODI and T20 sides and probably won't be considered at test level.

I don't rate Crane although I'm pleased to see him getting more game time for Hampshire but as they've got Dawson, he doesn't get in as often as he needs. Parkinson is a lot better although both at 24 have plenty of time ahead of them to improve as well.

Garton has been a player on the fringes for ages but again like Livingstone, seems to be going down the white ball route. It's a shame really as he's quick and fits the England mould of being more than handy with the bat. Another who probably should have at least played a T20 for England by now.

It'll be interesting to see the Lions squad, since I think I'm right in saying they're touring at the same time so they will be used, one assumes, for backup in case of injury or (more likely) catastrophic performances.

I wouldnt have bothered with Overton. Should have picked an out and out paceman..
They only pick Bess/Overton etc for their batting as well has bowling. The problem is they cant bowl.
Typical squad selection though. when we lose there should be a huge overhaul

Root steps down
Silverwood is fire.
We dont pick Burns Bairstow or Butler again..

Saying that, once you get over the new ball in Australia you always have a chance of getting a huge score.. but the issues is our top 6 dont score runs apart from Root.
