There was some play. Stokes took a couple of wickets, Leach bowled 18 overs. Here's a report:

Good man, thanks BH
What a daft situation to end up in. Only two of the first-XI bats got any time in the middle in the first game, meaning that none of the first-choice bowlers got any overs under their belts, hence why we had to put the Lions in to bat this time round.
But that still means only Burns and Hameed have had any time in the middle out of the first-choice bats. Hopefully we get a bit more play in the next few days otherwise the first test is gonna be messy.
Cricinfo has put the wrong player down at #3, that should be Ollie Pope presumably.

Interesting that he's in at 3 ahead of Abell or Bracey.
Sounds as if our first choice bowlers struggled to get out our second choice batsman. Bearing in mind how bad our first choice batsman are, that doesn't reflect well on our bowling attack ahead of this series
The last day of warm-up for England and not a great display from the batters. Stokes made 42, Burns 37...

Oz have named their XI for the first Test. Travis Head gets the nod over Khawaja.

Australia are definitely the favourites but I suppose quite a lot of favourites don't win! While these aren't the two greatest Ashes sides ever, especially when shortage of preparation is taken into account, I hope at least it will be an entertaining series.
To me its always how England bat. Australia going in with 4 bowlers.. means once you get over the new ball youve always got a chance.
England selection issues. Pope or Bairstow? Which bowlers?

Also the fifth Test will not be played in Perth:

No Anderson for the first test, which is probably a good decision. Pope preferred to Bairstow too, which is definitely a good decision on paper. Time for the kid to step up.
England 12:
Joe Root (c), Stuart Broad, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler (wkt), Haseeb Hameed, Jack Leach, Dawid Malan, Ollie Pope, Ollie Robinson, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood.
It seems likely that Leach will miss out which just might make sense in the circumstances of this particular Test.
Plus, y'know. It's Jack Leach. He always misses out.
Reading a lot about tall bowlers doing better than short bowlers at the Gabba so can see why England have gone Broad over Anderson. Robinson and Wood will likely be the key for us, if they bowl well then we might not lose by such a huge margin.
Hopefully Malan can bat like he did a few years ago and hopefully a refreshed Stokes can score a few as well because Root isnt going to score as heavily as he has done in previous series this year.

Buzzing for the first session, even though can’t see us doing too well it’s always exciting staying up a bit later for the ashes down under.
Prediction
Australia 2-1 England

No Broad it sounds? Suicide
England win the toss and will bat first. Broad is indeed out.

England wins toss and elects to bat. Green top and humid, both captains said they considered bowling but would have batted.
Best of luck to both sides. May the best team win.
Nothing like a good Ashes series
How many will England be down by the lunch?? i say 4.
yeah 4 sounds about right
They'll fall over their front feet when Starc pitches the ball up and will be out Lbw or bowled
