Think we'll do well to hold on to him beyond this season. We need to start thinking about replacements. We have to enjoy him whilst we have him. What a bargain at 17 mil.
Enjoy while we can. He is a Champions League calibre player…hopefully we’ll get Grealish money for him to offset a number of relatively poor recruitments.

How much was his release clause in France?
Tbh if I was Raph, I'd leave us (sorry guys!). He's half the player with us that he would be with any of the top 6 teams - why wouldn't he want to go where he can showcase his talents. Conversely, if we spent that transfer fee wisely, I think there are other (albeit less talented) players who would suit us just as well and fit in with the team. Let's just make the most of him while he's here, eh?

I disagree to an extent.
He has shone this season in a relatively poor team so far.
He has had injuries so if he gets more this season it will affect his performances and I think he has to show the ability to consistently deliver effectiveness ie multiple matches in a row where he wins or turns matches and is able to last for 90 minutes each time.
Don't get me wrong, we have a great player here, but still some data points to hit for me.

Until we get European football, that will just be the way it is. Look at Leicester. Had to sell Mahrez, Kante, Chilwell, and Maguire, despite being an established top half (and title winning) side. There will always be vultures for our best players as long as we aren't part of that elite group.
The key is reinvesting well, and building a top team off the back of individual sales.
Could do with getting him on a fresh contract with a hefty release fee in a hurry.
If his head is turned, we'll end up getting peanuts for him.

Yeah, I read an article saying that he did have a release clause but that wasn't met with the Leeds transfer fee. The president said that it was their decision to sell because they didn't want a player that wanted to move... so there was one, you just paid less.

who knows, you only really find out when it comes to sale time.
I think based on what we see now, we might get 50 mill, might. If he has a good season and by that I mean play 75% of matches, last 90 mins almost every time and not fade out of matches and prove influential most time, might get nearer 70 mill.
Raphinha's market value today?
Well, if Grealish went for 100 million, I'd rather think the starting price should be north of that.
He's a game-changer, like Grealish. His individual brilliance, as well as his team ethic (assists are as valuable as scoring, he recently said), means he has the potential to pull rabbits out of hats.
Plus he's Brazilian, ffs! Gotta be worth a cool 100 + some, surely?
Hope I'm wrong but will be expecting him to be sold after the end of this season. If they sell him in January, Bielsa might not be best pleased so not worth the risk.
It's a real privilege to see him playing for us, that's for sure.

Yeah, I responded to this. There was a release clause but Leeds didn't have to match it. The Rennes president got some stick for it but said that he didn't want an unhappy player there and wanted the fee to re-invest in the team. So he did have a clause, but Leeds didn't have to match it to get him.

We need Radz and the 49ers to go all out and get 3 top players in 3 specific positions so that Raph wants to stay and we can challenge.
1. We have a GK that is going places and we have good backup
2. We need a top level RB, plus we need Llorente and Koch to convert their glass into steel. Struijk will become top class, as will some of our youngsters but they are not there yet
3. We have top-level wingers - Raph, James and H, with Summerville coming through
4. We have Kalvin but we don't really have quality backup for him.
5. We need two top-level central midfielders
6. We need top strikers - or with better players surrounding him and a better system, Rodrigo may come into his own and Bam Bam may be even more prolific than last year. So that may be a tweak to how we play
So, a RB and two CMs. Strange how most on here have been saying that since last year
