Scrap international break.

Make the Nations League also qualification for Euros and WC. Top 2 from the A leagues qualify automatically, 3rd place into playoffs with leagues B, C and D winners. Reduce the amount of international games and breaks, and increase the amount of 'competitive' games.

Love the WC and Euros so accept qualifiers are part of the package. Managers get time to work with the.players who are not away on international duty, coach them to improve, players carrying a niggle get a rest and we all get to see our country play...if we want.

Some would oppose this as the clubs with more players representing their country would argue they would have to field U23 players
====
But these u23s are also on international duty at the various age group levels...

They should make them invitational. Top 12 teams automatically entered into the Euro's for example. Leaving 12 places up for grabs. Problem is, where do managers get playing time? Im also fed up of seeing the elite sides facing minnows. Atleast make the groups fair for all and completely randomise them. England in a group with the likes of Andorra, Moldova and Albanian is just ridiculous and wastes everybody's time.

Tbh I would change the footballing calendar. I would have the European competitions played in 2 uninterrupted periods (ie play the 6 group games weekends and midweek in 3/4 weeks and then have the knockouts up to the quarters in a similar fashion. Semi final and final in 2 weeks at the end of the season.) Then fashion the domestic competitions around them. Finally, international games in the summer only.
But none of that will happen so it was a waste of time posting it.

How do you determine the top 12? Maybe some sort of qualification?

But, yes, there should be pre-qualifying in UEFA.

Isn't this what Wenger is trying to do with the world cups?

If anything there should be more international football. Gives us a break from the financially doped club game.

For the record, if we had to field a team during this international break using only players who weren't called up then it would look roughly like this

------------------Christy
Shack----Moore---Llorente---Firpo
------------------Kenneh
Summe;...Rodrigo--Shack--Harrison
---------------------Dean

Good post Macca. Not a bad idea given that it would impact on the top 6 clubs the most and even things out for a match or two. But that’s exactly why it’ll never happen.

Quite enjoy the international breaks because it gives me a chance to plan long weekends and trips without missing a Wolves game. I guess if you have nowt going on in life and just live for your clubs next game then international breaks can seem like forever.

Perhaps some way to remove the small sides in a prelim might be wise but then again, why should those sides not have their day in the sun against better nations?

Well Italy shouldn't have to qualify after winning the last one, same goes for France. Actually make the FIFA rankings count for something. We all want to watch competitive games, England v San Marino is not a competitive game. The qualifying games might actually be interesting if the groups had 3 or 4 teams in them capable of winning the groups.

The quarter finalists in the Euros should all be in group A and B.

With my move, I am a little out of touch, Sky have let us down big time and I am piggy backing my new neighbours internet signal, love village life but having no internet and no reliable phone signal is a pain.
Can watch tv so am looking forward to the match tonight.
Why was kp not in the England squad?

Talking of injuries, this particular international break should give us a chance for KP and Bamford to recover if we're lucky.

Sometimes there's a silver lining...

Interesting that after England won 5 nil at the weekend against lowly ranked opposition certain pundits got carried away and proclaimed that KP restricted England and would struggle to regain his England place.
I wonder if they still share that opinion after England struggled to get a point against Hungary.

The English sports press are morons. Whenever England win by more than a couple of goals we're suddenly world-beaters, even if we've just beaten a team of part-timers. They're generally also southern biased so they'll talk KP down at every opportunity. Meanwhile Kalvin will continue to let his boots do the talking.
