Trophy 100%. Drives me mad when people say otherwise but I spose this is one of the questions that's splits us as fans

Fair enough and I agree it has become a bit of a polarising issue.

It's Spurs so it'll be neither

Imo, this is circumstantial and depends...so example for Spurs, I think right now we need to win a trophy to get that monkey off our back and move on (to hopefully bigger things - regular champions league and title challanges with the possibility of winning).

However, if you were Arsenal I suspect champions league is more important as they have won the FA cup on several occasions with out any real progression.

In short, top 4 is better for progression however right now in this moment in time Spurs need to win a trohpy.

A trophy. 100%. Granted a league cup or Europa Conference win isn't winning the CL, but it would be something to celebrate and be proud of. And it *might* be enough to convince Kane to stay.

I did get the preference for top 4 under Pochettino when the side was good enough to properly compete at that level but we have to be realistic. Even if we did somehow sneak into the CL we'd only be making up the numbers anyway.

If you take one season in isolation then you are correct. However, if you think about longer term, then you could argue getting into the CL gives you a better chance of winning more trophies. Obviously it didn't work out like that for Spurs over the last 10 years - but it definitely could be argued it helped Spurs grow.

Trophy 100%. Gets on my nerves we just can’t seem to win a dime. Every season potless.

This...due to you being in the CL, it helped massively in getting that new stadium, i'm not sure whether it'll be there without it. Winning FA and league cups would still have you lot at White Hart lane..

The thing is winning one knock out trophy in isolation doesn’t do anything in terms of actual progression. It’s nice for that particular moment and the memories it provides but I don’t think it helps growth.

If we remove ourselves from the “top 6” for a moment then from the moment of our league cup win, the other teams outside of that five to have won a domestic cup are Portsmouth, Birmingham City, Wigan, Swansea and Leicester. Of the first four two are playing in League One, Two are now in the Championship and with Leicester their FA Cup was won after their league title in 2016 so wasn’t quite a one off kind of thing.

Even our recent relative “success” wasn’t propelled by that league cup win in 2008 but other factors.

Trophy 🏆 for me please.

Depends which one we get. If we make top 4 and don't win a trophy then I'd rather that. However, if we don't get top 4, but we win a trophy, then I would rather that. I am sure others are the same.

I've always been more on the 'trophy please' side of the argument.

However the way the club has been managed the past couple years means I think it's more important to get back into CL places. We need to be able to attract some top signings/manager etc, maintain a higher income, otherwise we'll fall even further down the pecking order.

The Champions League is where the top players want to be. If you're in the champions league on the regular players will see us an opportunity. That's where Kane wants to be and a domestic cup won't change that.
We need to get back in the top tier and I will take a top four finish over a cup where we are today, especially with the naming rights for the stadium still to be resolved.

Trophies are something other fans like to dig us out on but I couldn't give fk about that in all honestly. For progression and a chance to ever be able to hold on to the coat tails of the top clubs, it has to be the champions league. Sad but true.

Do you think this is split between match going fans and fans who watch on TV? With one group favouring one scenario over the other?

Silver ware of course 100%, champions league spots will be nearly impossible for Spurs

Recent history suggests trophies are impossible for Spurs, not a CL place...

It is kind of sad how the CL has turned a lot of fans into corporate minded, penny counting fools.

100%

It has held us back that we have failed to win a pot. Now its a big thing, which makes it harder to achieve and when it comes too it, we freeze. Need to bag one and grow from there.

Its hardly penny counting. Our 2019 UCL run earned us £90m in tv and prize money, not to mention matchday revenues.

Its the sort of money that makes it more and more likely that you will win 1, 2, 3 or more trophies

With the super doped clubs of city, Chelsea, utd, Liverpool, now Newcastle, how many top 4 spots can you see for Spurs in the next 20 years

posted on 12/10/21

Liverpool super doped? They have a very low net spend over the last decade, less than Spurs over the last 5 years.

A trophy all day long, we need that monkey off our back and once the first one arrives hopefully it is the springboard we need. I can`t see it ever happening under ENIC though, sadly.
