Yep a tune used by 100's of clubs around the world. I have no doubt there are many racist songs to it too. Equally many anti racist ones.

Honestly people making an issue of this and trying to stick to it just look very stupid.

Just to check-is the suggestion here that there are rangers fans that don’t sing a racist version of this, or that the ‘original’ version that rangers fans sang wasn’t the racist version??

The Four Lads song is a positive song that has really caught on with the fans. It’s clearly the use of that tune the club endorses and the song relates directly to the products being advertised.

Anyone claiming this is really a deliberate subliminal call back to the Famine Song really has issues.

They were blaring out the 4 Lads song at the open training session yesterday which was about 50% kids.

You think they were doing that because they really want them to be singing the Famine Song come Saturday?

No they did it because as far as the club is concerned that tune is for the 4 Lads song. It really is as simple as that.

Red, white and blue strips are a fairly obvious association with the club.

What do the black, purple, yellow etc strips all signify?

Are all these other colours selected to be offensive in some way?

I think the only orange kit we have at the moment is a goalie kit? But are we to believe that’s the one kit that was deliberately coloured to offend folk?

There are vile people who sing the famine song but its really 100% completely unrelated.

Have you listened to the 2 links i posted?

Are we agreeing it’s different lyrics?!

Is it therefore just different versions of the original tune?!

I’d love to see that as a defence in one of these copyright cases.

I don’t think it was a great idea for someone to write different lyrics using a tune which has racist connotations, purely because of the amount of morons who just won’t change. Start from scratch and do something completely new-it breaks the links.

I think it was a bit naive in the current climate for your club to use a tune which rangers fans have 2 different sets of lyrics for-one of which has been legally declared racist.

If you don’t think that’s an issue, that’s entirely your prerogative. I think that similarly, especially in the current climate, if some folk think that wasn’t very wise, then that’s their prerogative as well.

The fact that the racist version is still widely sang by rangers fans publicly and in large numbers would have made the club think it maybe wasn’t the best idea right now.
