Encouraging Signs

Always said I would give Nuno 13 games to see evidence of his philosophy. Good to see he is gradually settling on a first team. Dier v Rodon and Tanganga v Romero are the only real 50/50 selections that split the fans.

Lo Celso, Gil and Bergwijn are great subs to have. I'm hoping Paratici makes one or two signings in January. battle ready CM and a fast, robust Centre Forward with international experience.

I totally agree that the signs are encouraging.

I felt that we should (and could) have beaten Villa by a more comfortable score line and yesterday, after the first few minutes, we completely dominated the game.

It was a shame about Dier's own goal towards the end, but rather than panic, the team remained composed and kept dominating the ball.

I have still not forgiven Nuno for the Arsenal game, but he now seems to have worked out what his strongest starting eleven is and he's got them playing more creatively. If we beat West Ham on Sunday, then I'll put the Arsenal game behind me and will start to hope that he can in fact deliver for us!

I’m still not convinced, Newcastle are embarrassingly poor and Villa are in a rut following our match.

If he gets 6/7 points from these next 3 the. I might start to believe he can have us challenging for top 4. But the performances at Palace, Second half against Chelsea and first half against Arsenal remain etched into my memory. Even the 2 of the first 3 wins of the season were unconvincing.

Newcastle looked gassed after 20 mins yday and were poor. Totally different game next week.

Antonio will be a handful for Dier and Romero.

PEH and Skipp V Soucek and Rice will be interesting.

If Ndombele turns up again I give us half a chance. Hopefully he gets some more minutes on Thursday to keep his fitness levels up.

Both teams play on Thursday as well. Need to beat them caaaants.

I've been very impressed with the last couple of games. Both times we were on the front foot and the dominant team.

Next three games will give us a good indication of whether we can do this against good teams. I'm still a bit wary after the capitulations in our defeats this season.

I could be wrong but IMO West Ham will go far stronger than us on Thurs.

Hopefully our lot will be fresher on Sunday.

The team picks itself now. That team yesterday was in many people's first pick and it works. ECL commitments and nailed on injuries without sufficient backup will be our undoing.

Agree with this. The Villa game was no doubt encouraging, but Newcastle were beyond poor yesterday, and a Magpies supporting friend of mine assures me that absolutely nothing can be read into any games with this Newcastle team.

I actually thought we were quite Spursy yesterday with the early goal conceded, a dominant performance where we should have been out of sight but weren’t and then conceding a ridiculous own goal at the end to produce a nervy finish. About as Tottenham as you can get.

The next three games against West Ham, United, and Everton are critical and will tell us a lot more about where the team stands at the moment. Dare I sat it, they could well be season defining and set the tone for the winter.

Come out of those with at least seven points and there will be a lot of cause for optimism.

That is pretty much the first team I would say, with perhaps Emerson Royal being the only question mark. Meanwhile Dele should never be given a starting berth for Tottenham again. His time is truly up.

He can start the cup games but lile Winks should be no where near the prem team unless Skipp or PEH are unavailable.

Been really pleasantly surprised with Skipp who has been excellent. I really didn’t think he would be able to make the step up from the Championship but incredibly happy to have been proven wrong. Since he came on at Arsenal he has been very good for us indeed.

the situation can basically be summed up by saying that since we changed system to something more sensible and suited to the players, we have looked good, and results have backed up these performances.

I would suggest that every result this season when we played that nonsense 4-3-3 thing, whether we won or lost, is totally irrelevant for gauging our future results.

fancy us to turn over west ham on the weekend. europa league will fack them. they are not built for european football.

I've wanted it to work out for him but If the cheating Arab's come up with a half decent offer he has to go. He can't even cut it in the ECL. Might fair a little bit better in the Championship.

The problem lies more with Levy, but Nuno was 19th choice and only has a 2 year contract - jury still very much out

Decent performance (Ndombele, Skipp, Kane and Reggie all played well) but lets be honest...... Opposition was Championship level. Beat West Ham, then I'll be encouraged. Yesterday taught us nothing... we are still also rans/ miles behind the likes of City, Pool & Chelsea. Still don't think we'll make top 4 & I can't get excited about Europa/Conf League

Agreed top 6 is still the target. No point getting ahead of ourselves with the prospect of top 4.

I think we abandon all this talk of finishes and just beat who we can. It will sort itself out. Dont want players getting 4th then feeling content. This seemed to happen under Poch. Definitely not elite mentality and the results showed this.

Technically the only teams we should fear are Liverpool and Man City. And we've beaten one of them. Brentford showed Chelsea aren't special and Leicester the same with Man U.

posted on 18/10/21

I think some of you are missing the point.

Yes, NUFC are a poor team, but we beat them comfortably in difficult circumstances. Lets face it many of us expected Dr Tottenham to turn up @ St James' Park given their circumstances and after 2minutes we were all probably thinking "here we go again". (my 12 year old was losing his sh!!!t)

But we beat a poor team convincingly. We cannot be expected to do more than that, except may be beat them more convincingly.

Seen a couple comments about us challenging top 4. I think people have to get it out of their minds that that is a realistic target right now. We are rebuilding. Top 6 is our natural level and we should expect that while hoping for more. We have some very strong and well resourced teams to better in order to make top 4 and in our current stage of development i think an expectation of top 4 is pushing it. But it is encouraging that despite the doom and gloom amongst many we are actually pretty well placed and there seems to be a team developing in front of our eyes. All of these experiences - good performances, players hitting form, coming from behind, coping in difficult away game atmospheres, scoring quality goals - will give us/the team confidence and some faith we are on the right track.
