I meant to point out that the motorways in France are privately owned.

This makes far too much for most people that are invested in politics.

You're asking people to find a middle ground.

On JA606.

Good luck with that.

No. It's vegans vs racists and there is no in between. Vegans must hold one opinion on a matter and racists must hold the opposite. You must also be able to predict someone's view on something based on their label as a vegan or racist. Stop trying to create a lack of division in our society please.

Good thread. Let's see how it goes.
Your point about NHS is on the money. There's a version here that's nowhere near as good, but some folk will never be satisfied.

We're becoming as polarised as they are in the US. When people start defending a political party like it's their football team you know things are all wrong.

I am one of those who leans pretty much straight up the middle of left and right.

One of the really strange things in this day and age is the lack of tolerance for either party by the opposite spectrum. The right are racists or fascists and the left are socialists or communists. Whereas the vast majority are neither.

The way some on here defend their chosen political party never ceases to amaze me.

The politics thread is full of it.

Its not like politicians give a fook about the electorate anyway

I just noticed that UWW belatedly responded to everyone calling him out on the other thread. He backtracked slightly by saying that of course he knows the left and right are all liars something something they're all the same blah blah democracy is pointless.

I have to say, I find that lazy cynicism - and inability to see that while no one is perfect, there are real differences between total demagogues and flawed democratic public servants - just as damaging as polarisation. If you conclude there's no point in trying to make things better, you open the door to the kinds of people who can make things much, much worse.

I tend to lean more to the left in the USA. The right are just too batshit crazy. They label everyone who doesn’t share their views as a socialist. Ask any of them what a socialist is and they have no idea.

The bottom line with the Dems is that only a very small percentage of those in the house or senate are Socialists or have that ideology.

90% of the democrats seem Tory Lite from my very small window into US politics.

I've met lots of very intelligent and decent Republican voters though, people have their own reason for voting whichever way they do.

It always amuses me when politicians who went to public schools and then Oxbridge rail against the Metropolitan Elite. I suppose they get the same thing in the US with people that went to places like Harvard.
