As long as there are exploits, those that can, will.

Owners of many clubs in thehistory of British history have been involved in this, sports direct was one such deal and no one batted an eyelid.

Owners make money out of clubs and take money out of the game, spurs for example have a complicated deal with Levi that he does very nicely out of.

If you are going to look at sponsorship look at owner practises as well, then wages and agent fees.

Do Man City’s owners make money out of the club or is it ran as a loss?

Why do you think that the City board either voted against this or abstained from voting even though the rest of the league wanted it?

Not sure about the sponsorship deal between Newcastle and Sports Direct but I assume it was not a doped deal, in that Ashley didn't take liberties by injecting more than the market value of the sponsorship.

As for the prem chairman, there have been lots of ramblings that they are not happy Newcastle's owners have been allowed to takeover the club.

I agree with the fact they are trying to restrict PIF doing a Man City, by not inflating a shirt sponsor deal and using it as an opportunity to inject £500m into the club for example. I'm sure I read Levy is leading the chairman revolt against Newcastle.

As for City abstaining in the vote. Surprise surprise. This will probably go to court and we know what will probably happen there.

Can you expand on the complicated deal between Spurs and Levy? Last I looked he was being paid around £6m a year as a wage. How is that complicated?

*Also City abstained because they said the vote was illegal.

I do think this will lead to a the super league being reformed if the Premier League cannot ensure financial fair play. There’s no way that clubs like United and Liverpool are going to accept scraps for a couple of decades.

I believe City’s sponsorship deals are still being investigated by the Premier league

I would say it would be more anticompetitive for the league to allow them to pump in billions through sponsorship deals not at fair value. City winning the league nearly every year isn't great for competition at the minute, for example.

Wouldn’t it be great if Newcastle, City and Chelsea facked off into their own super league. They wouldn’t be missed.

It’s more competitive now then when united were are at their peak, only Arsenal had a chance until Chelsea came along, it’s a bit disingenuous to bring up competition as the premiere league by its very nature killed off so much competition when it was created.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yet United spent less money than Liverpool, Arsenal and even Newcastle in the 90s. They didn't have the financial advantages that City have now, that's for sure.

explain why any fan who simply pays his money and walks through the turnstiles should worry about this?
If city wins every year......the fan will simply stop going!

We don’t win it every year
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And that is good. This thread is about "if you did", or fair competition.
And BTW, if the competition is screwed, the betting houses will be none to please either.
And they have power!

United did have the financial advantages, they just didn't need them due to a ridiculously successful group of younger players coming through that may be unparalleled in World football. Lets not forget that in the late 80s and early 90s United spent a decent amount, breaking transfer fees trying to get the success. They then had a group of 4 or 5 world class/top class players come into the side from their youth team that saved them millions.

Added to topping up/ refreshing the squad with the off record transfer fee here and there.

If you are not worried about this then why comment. If other fans are not worried about this then they are unlikely to comment.
