Haven't read the whole thread, but those who advocate "only letting in the good migrants", i.e. only access to skilled workers - do you realise that the corollary of that approach would be a national policy that the worst paid, least skilled, least attractive jobs have to be done by UK citizens. Give it a couple of decades and you'll have resentment that immigrants are visibly better off than the indigenous under-class.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Behind his polished language this man wants to let in illegals so that the citizens don't get visibly upset that the legal immigrants who pay their taxes, commit next to nil crime and enjoy a good standard of living because of their hard work and perseverance.
So much to accommodate for the illegals

Red Indian, genuine question - I think you said you’re Indian. Correct me if I’m wrong as this may well be a stereotype but from my limited experience of these things a lot of Indian people really dislike all things Muslim. Probably more a cultural thing (if true) than straight up xenophobia. Any truth to that Reddo?
People say “just let the skilled workers in” but I completely disagree. It’s the non-skilled workers we need. Those who send money back to their homeland, building homes for their families off the back of working in a pub/shop over here. I’m sick of queuing for my coffee in the morning because the Polish girl who used to be efficient buggered off home.

We should look to educate / qualify those already here before importing a workforce.
As for asylum, it should be limited to those with identification, genuine reason for seeking asylum, and a good reason for not seeking it on route to Britain.
Its easy to just see numbers, but these are real people, each requiring housing, medical assistance, education, financial support.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I trust you can appreciate many of those trying to get to the UK from conflict etc may not have ID on them.
There are EU databases (finger print recognition, real time data etc) the Home Office used to use to speed up/aid the asylum process, however the Home Office no longer has access to them. Which has put an immense strain on resources. Coupled with staffing cuts etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why would they need to travel to the UK, are they not safe from conflict within the EU?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Countless reasons. Language, culture, family connections, financial. And also misinformation from traffickers.
Another widely held perception is that asylum seekers have to claim asylum the first safe country in which they arrive.
https://www.amnesty.org.uk/truth-about-refugees
The UK also houses considerably less asylum seekers than its neighbours.

Haven't lived in India for almost a decade now.
Do you realize that India has the largest population of Muslims? Last I checked they had 200 million Muslims living mostly peacefully with the rest of the populace. I am not sure where you get that Indians dislike Muslims.
However if you like to speak of pure statistics, Muslim population is probably 20% of India's population (documented, there are millions of illegals coming from Bangladesh and Myanmar but they account for over 50% crime stats, have really low literacy rates in India and in places where Muslims are in majority there are well documented cases of them killing minorities, destroying temples. This is never highlighted in Western media.
