Sancho

I think Sancho has been playing it a tad too safe but that's not surprising in a side that has struggled for confidence recently. I'm certain once he gets an assist/goal then it'll come. He's looked good on the ball I think and would probably play quite well with Mata. VDB, Martial, Lingard etc.

He's looking sharper each game. Thought he was dangerous in the first half against Leicester.

I'm quite sure the original plan was Rashford on the left, Sancho on the right, and then Greenwood & Martial in rotation with Cavani at 9 and Rashford on the left.

With Ronaldo now coming in and essentially guaranteeing the central role, and therefore meaning Greenwood will have to play mostly from the right, Sancho will probably be a victim of rotation for a while. He's also adjusting to his new team, new league and no preseason.

He'll be fine in the long run. He just needs some time and ideally a goal to get him up and running.

He needs a run on the right now that Rashford is back. I love Greenwood and think he’ll be a star but quite often if he’s not scoring he’s not offering that much from the right.

So he needs more time?

Time will tell whether he's good enough and worth that money... Currently he looks a tad overpriced, grealish certainly does

Well, yes.

Not every single player lands straight on their feet in the PL. He's shown plenty of glimpes, he'll be fine.

Just plain ridiculous to blame Ole for this after a handful of games.

how else would you price him considering he is a 21 year old english attacker?

An article about Sancho that mentions Ole four times

Just admit that you want another stick to beat Ole with and move on. You guys and your creative ways to say the same thing!

The fact of the matter is, we have an absolute glut of attacking talent, so getting into the team is gonna be hard, even for the likes of Sancho, Cavani, Pogba and Martial.

If Ole was playing Sancho instead of an in form Greenwood, you'd be choking on your saltys about that

Of course he’s learning on the job, like any manager who has never experienced managing a club the size of Utd.

Greenwood would benefit from playing up front, in team who create chances.

I assume the OP knows that United had been tracking Sancho since he was at Watford and first actively tried to sign him in the summer of 2017, before he joined Dortmund and before Solksjaer took the reins?

Sancho will be just fine based on his skill set.

Some mutterings about his attitude and application since being at Utd though and also that his team mates are so far none too impressed.

I know some posters really can't talk about anything beyond "Solskjaer is bad" but there's a legitimate point to be made about the club signing players without having really rigorous plans about how to make the most of them. Sancho was remarkably productive at Dortmund when playing as part of a more structured attack than United's, for one thing, and as part of a team that pressed much more aggressively and in a much more organised way than United, for another. Of course there's an element of adaptation to a new club and league, and we can expect Sancho to improve as he acclimatises. But we shouldn't make him 100% responsible if he doesn't excel the way he did at Dortmund if he hasn't been placed in a set-up that makes the most of his attributes. In this context, the signing of Ronaldo underscores the sense of a lack of strategic context to the Sancho transfer.

You can look at DVDB through the same lens: maybe he isn't the greatest player we've signed, but I still think that's less a story about a player flopping, and more one of a strategically incoherent transfer. We didn't have a system that his proven skills could slot into. We operated in a formation where a player like him doesn't quite fit into the double pivot, and where he interprets the number 10 role totally differently to Bruno.

I don’t think it’s fair to blame Ole. Some players can take time to settle.

posted on 21/10/21

He's effectively been reduced to a bench warmer, the unplanned signing of Ronaldo was bad for him but the system and the lack of identity is more of an issue.

And Ole couldn't beat a midtable side in last season's final, so best not to mock other manages.
