i think that this competition, as with the league cup, is one that justifies playing changed sides, and if you manage to progress to the latter stages, you start taking it more and more serious each round

Nuno is still in my bad books because of the Arsenal debacle, but even I can't blame him for last night's team selection.

I think he did the right thing in resting the first eleven. The problem is the second string are just not good enough and that's down to the club's recruitment over several years.

Let's hope Levy/Paratici are making serious moves to improve the squad's (and first team's) quality in January, because if another wake call was needed, they got it last night.

Listen, if you took Liverpools 2nd XI then they would struggle to put a coherent performance together. Individually players are decent but being a team requires a lot lot more than just sticking 11 decent players together on a pitch.

Some didnt have great games - Gil, Bergwijn, Alli, GLC
Some aint really ready - Scarlett (He was bullied by their CB)
Some are just poor - Davies, Sanchez, Winks
Some were ok - Rodon, Tanganga,

Nuno is to blame for making XI changes and having kids on the bench but really I'm not that bothered. We will make it out of this group with home games to come, so not a disaster.

What an awful ref by the way.

At a time when refs seems to be being more lenient he gave every little thing, every time their players fell over, which was an awful lot. Booked Tanganga for a good challenge, booked Scarlett when he never touched the keeper who did a massive dive and double roll combo. You could see Rodon losing his shiiit constantly as every time he put pressure on their FWD he fell over and got the FK. Even their goal came from a non-foul free kick in the build up.

Europa Conference League quality ref.

If the rumours are true, there's a clause in Nuno's contract which says that if he doesn't achieve a top 6 finish in the PL then he can be sacked without compensation.

Therefore, it should be understandable why he would not prioritise the conference game over the West Ham game?

Earlier in the season he went a bit stronger with the conference line ups, but that was before 3 straight back to back PL defeats. He has since realised that his focus - according to his contract - must be the PL.

Therefore, no matter how you look at it, Levy (and Paratici) are to blame for last night, not Nuno.

#thfc Winks admitted he only has himself to blame for his situation but says he wants regular football & talks with Nuno. He also suggested the decision to leave the first XI at home last night impacted morale. https://t.co/QWkmplkOky

Lol I know that's a naughty headline but 'average footballer struggles to come to terms with the fact he's average'. Laters Winksy, good effort.

Winks and Doherty are the two players we need to move on and upgrade the most, after that probably Davies and Sanchez, but those two can do a job on their day.

Nuno did not motivate this lot, so they lost when they should have won. They played like they didn't know who they were playing with or against.
Truth of this debacle is that Nuno is not a good manager.
