I think we retired that chant with Bryson, Ang, but would be nice to see it return.

Spart hates Shinnie, of course. Doesn't see what he brings to the team.

Are you making the trip to Millwall Vidal?

posted on 24/10/21

That's one I'm giving a miss to, Scouse. One of my lads is coming home for the weekend. I'm going to try to get to most away games if I can, though.

Spart has a lot to learn... sadly, old dogs etc etc

Shinnie is crucial to us.

When Shinnie is in power mode, his fists are clenched and the sinews in his neck are straining.
His determination to win is just obvious.
A week or two ago, Cristiano Ronaldo, demonstrated the same comic-book symptoms, fighting to get his team back in the game before the whistle.
We really do need some Mackays xx

Yes, Cat, everyone needs a midfield dynamo - think Carlin, then Gemmill, then Van der Laan, then, oh so nearly but for injuries, Thorne and now Shinnie ably abetted by Knight and, maybe soon, Bielik.

With Bird and Shinnie playing so well, how does Bielik get back into this team?

Is this board going in to Donald Trump post truth mode. Comparing Shinnie to Carlin and Gemmill, what!!! Reminds me of when Dan Quayle compared himself to JFK. Anyone can go on a football field and pump their fists, It doesn't take any skill. It doesn't even show their determination. I don't know if any of you noticed but with players like Carlin, Gemmill, Van der Laan and Thorne we used to win matches. The opposition never dominated us. We are fortunate this season that there are very few quality strikers in the Championship because with the number of times the ball is in our penalty area we should have conceded a hat full. I give thanks to our defenders who have battled so bravely.

Does anybody have a postage stamp they can lend me? I want to write down everything Spart knows about football on the back of it. I'll still have room for The Lord's Prayer, obviously.

Shinnie is more effective than Omar Mascarell..

I might agree with you Jorvik, Mascerell could pass the ball but didn't have a clue about defending. Losing Thorne to injury cost us two promotions in 2015 and 2016. I don't think we will ever say the same about Shinnie.

Notice Vidal is on again about football being a really complicated game that he understands but then he is in profession which encourages such obfurscation.

Where have I said that football is a "really complicated game", Spart? I did ask how Bielik would get into the team while Bird and Shinnie are playing so well but surely that isn't enough to obfuscate you? If so then your situation is even worse than I feared.

In the past you have always disagreed with me when I say it's a simple game and defended the TV pundit bullsh*****s who try to complicate it.

Notice we scored on Saturday with three in the penalty area so that even though Byrne's cross wasn't up to the same standard of his run, having three in the box improved our chances of picking up a deflection. Answer to scoring more goals is having the ball and bodies in the penalty area. I don't know how often I keep saying this. Having CKR back is already improving this. His hold up play gave time for the cavalry to swarm the enemy.

Looking at the highlights Coventry's penalty was really a dive. Buchanan stopped himself before the tackle realising he was on the wrong side and barely made contact with the Skyblue cheat.

Wow! I can feel the heat from Spart v Vidal all the way over here!

I think it's perfectly legit to compare the "dynamism" of Shinnie with the dynamism of, eg, Carlin or Gemmill without necessarily saying that all three had equal ability. Speaking for myself all I was saying was that any team needs a dynamo in midfield and that we have one in Shinnie. For me "dynamic" relates to an ability and willingness to cover every blade of grass, get tackles in, inspire others and yes, even score the odd goal.

Would Derby as at present constituted be worse off without Shinnie? I think we would. And there have been occasions when he has proved to be more than just "dynamic", eg against Preston.

I too have wondered who will make way for a fit Bielik but that conundrum could well not exist following possible fire sales in January. (Bielik is not likely to be sold unless and until he can prove a lasting fitness.)

I agree, Spart, that running on its own can be meaningless. Take Barry Powell for example. I don't think I have ever seen a player put so much work in and do so much running and yet somehow manage to avoid the ball! Shinnie may not be the most skillful but there is plenty of purpose and effect.

I could go on and doubtless you could go on and we'll never agree but that's absolutely fine.

We are doing extremely well in my opinion so I prefer to credit our players with their strengths rather than focus on their weaknesses. Shinnie has been instrumental in scrapping our way to a few points. I suppose I have partly agreed with Spart previously in that he isn't the best technically but he more than makes up for that in what he brings to the side. In an ideal world we want players who are great on the ball rather than great without the ball but we are a long way away from having a team that doesn't need a water-carrier or two. Curtis Davies is another one who Spart has singled out for criticism because of his relative lack of ball-playing skills but he has been absolutely tremendous this season.

When and if we can afford to dispense with players like these I will chuck my hat in the air with Spart and celebrate but I don't think that will happen any time soon
