Who knows but it’s totally plausible. Ole is clearly trying to base his management style on Ferguson (which clearly isn’t going to work especially when virtually all your back room staff have virtually no experience in coaching).

Also wasn’t there rumours that Ferguson was influential in us getting Ronaldo in the summer.

Think it's quite possible the long goodbye will last as long as possible, maybe till the end of the season.

Don't think there's a manager that right now you could say 'he'll fit, we'll get him.'
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Even if there was, I wouldn't trust the guys making these decisions to see that. Probably end up with Fletcher of Wazza as the next manager.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We are a strange club. We don't tend to go relatively seamlessly from one manager to the next like some clubs can.

A record 20 league titles, yet they've come from just 3 managers in 120-ish years. City had 3 title winning managers in just 6 years from 2012-2018. Chelsea had 4 from 2005-2017.

We tend to go through managers then eventually find some sort of 'Goldilocks zone' of success with one manager.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently. Liverpool hve a big flag in the Kop which reads “Success has many fathers” with images of Shankly, Paisley, Fagen, Dalglish, Benitez and Klopp on it, each winning either a league, a CL, or both.

For us, Tommy Tommy Docherty had a good spell and could have been a great manager if it wasn’t for off-field issues, lets say.

But our history, the really good parts, are down to just Busby and Fergie.

The current United, we had twenty years of attacking, high tempo, risk taking football which seemed to work pretty well, but literally as soon as Fergie left we’ve gone for four managers who are nothing like that. Did they get bored of it or something.

Maybe the club want Conte but there’s a bit of brinkmanship on both sides as to how much they’re gonna allow his demands to be met. I just read that apparently (emphasis on that word) Conte wants us to bring in De Vrij from Inter as his first signing.

🤞

Goldilocks zone

This is an excellent term to describe it.

Or equally we could do the simplest thing possible. Bring in a top coach who isn’t past it (LVg, Jose) or a never will be (Ole).

Should probably bring in De Freezer, De Oven and throw De Kitchen Sink at it too to get things moving in the right direction again.

If Fergie’s influence at the club was too big I doubt we’d have ended up running the way we have.

Fergie’s obviously one of a few footballing voices at the club, but so much of how we’ve operated has been contrary to his ideals that I doubt how much influence he still has.

That’s not to suggest his voice won’t be heard, and Fergie’s always been very vocal about the manager needing time - even when it was about his rivals - but that doesn’t mean he’s this major influence causing major issues.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He has no place at the training ground talking to players.

Really?

If we are sticking with the fairy tale theme, perhaps Chicharito could be the right manager?

Of course Fergie undermines Ole because Fergie was one of the world's greatest managers and Ole isnt.
Even now I bet in half hour he could spread more wisdom than Ole could in months....years. Fergie even going there is the writing on the wall for Ole tbh

I just think SAF feels sorry for Ole as he’s one of his boys and probably knows deep down he’s toast but is doing all he can to squeeze the last bit of United DNA out of him to get through this crisis.

Could he feel his own head under the mattress?

That's some contortionism.

Does he actually have any role at the club? Ambassadorial or something?

You'd obviously want your legends watching your games and all the rest but if he doesn't have some sort of official role at the club, I don't see what help he'd be having at the side of a training ground.
