I think you need to look up who Grealish was playing for when he was Greenwood’s age. And it’s not like Dean Smith is some tactical wiz that has really improved Grealish, he just gave him a free role and let him develop by playing.

Players go to Dortmund to play games, it’s a club that gives opportunities to young players. Sancho didn’t want to train under Pep, he wanted to play regular football no matter who was coaching him.

Greenwood’s been coming along fine. He’s still got a lot to learn but most of that is to do with experience. Ole’s time has been very good for Greenwood as he’s made a conscious effort to bring him through. But still, he doesn’t fully trust him as a cf yet. A better coach may have hindered Greenwood by not having patience with him, and prioritising better more experienced players.

I'm mainly talking about the coaches that take training and work with players to develop their game.

Our coaches can't coach defending, pressing, passing, movement, etc. So to think they could develop his game on and off the ball to a high standard is laughable.

Some players have that intelligence at an early stage, some develop it later—but a good coach can speed the process up a bit.

But I’ve not said they will, I’m comparing it to Grealish in his formative years and under Smith.

People act like players are robots and just need educating, it’s a nonsense. It helps but the main thing is the player themselves.

It's amazing how DDG covers 3.5km a game standing on his goal line.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
but no pressing at all...lazy sod. ddg out.

the greenwood shooting stats are interesting, because when he first broke through post lockdown, his accuracy and goal scoring was absurdly good..if i remember he managed something silly like 7 goals from 11 shots, with an xg of less than 2, catching gks out all the time, low backlift, left foot/right foot, he was stupidly clinical.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, he was very clinical back then. The thing that stood out to me was he didn't have that many shots overall. Now he's probably shooting more from positions he wouldn't have back then, and his accuracy has therefore gone down.

Greenwood shooting from difficult angles may be causes by a general anxiety that seems to have spread through the team. They try to force things at times but choose the difficult options. We're more effective when we keep it simple. For example our 2nd and 3rs goals v Atalanta were just be playing balls into the box really.

Yes, but players won't learn everything on their own—they learn some things through others.

Take Rooney, he never really figured out that a forward pass was better than just passing it out wide to Valencia all the time.

But these players are all getting a high basic level of coaching from professional, qualified coaches. It’s why coaching badges exist. Footballers are never going to have perfect conditions in which to develop and thrive. The best will overcome the difficulties they all have in their careers.

I can’t really respond to the Rooney comment seriously because it’s so retaaarded I don’t know where to start.

It's all about effective football, and players developing effective habits.

……

This has to be your most idiotic comment to date.

He is a wide forward.

I remember when people used to say Scholes was / would be a top CF. Same with Greenwood.

I don’t recall United fans talking about RVP’s potential when Arsenal” signed him.

He's our most selfish player since Kanchelskis.

He will eventually be a CF. He is a wide forward at the moment.

His current position can only work in a 4-3-3. In a 4-2-3-1 it leaves the team badly exposed.
