China, USA and India are responsible for 50% of CO2 emissions globally while Britain produces less than 1%

Stop buying cheap trash from China, boycott McDs and KFC and don’t buy cheap clothing made in an Indian sweatshop if you want to protest

Yes...but it's so cheap in Primani

The river Avon has the second highest tidal displacement of any estuary in the world - 14m difference between high tide and low tide. A tidal barrage scheme has been proposed but its been blocked/challenged by some environmentalists because the nature of the estuary would change and displacement of some species, particularly wading birds. Also Bristol port would suffer with reduced shipping in and out.
The barrage would supply between 7-9% of the UK electricity needs annually - total green energy!!

Hi Ace, if you can find an example of a ‘peaceful’ protest implementing wide scale change, and fast. I think that would be a worthwhile exercise for all of us. I feel like you are three posts away from telling us you can grow concrete.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There is a difference, even, in using highly aggressive and persistent protestation such as the suffragettes with street parades, public speaking, marches, lobbying governments, hunger strikes and chaining themselves to railings outside parliament, to outright sabotage which is what is currently being directed at the commuters of London.

The driving commuters of London.

i don't get how we can make laws overnight to fine people 10k for meeting up with a few people during lockdown but they can't do anything about these muppets. Also a bit random but it would be funny if someone started weeing on them when they were glued to the ground and they can't even move, since you can't run them over that's the best retaliation I've thought of so far. However as annoying as these old s are, everyone knows about insulate britain now so it's worked in a way.

So the comparison for immediate, effective change is a 15 year movement which ended due to a World War and one of the leaders sacrificing themselves?

I think your take on the situation is pretty flippant, its not like XR who bizarrely tackled eco-friendly public transport commuters.

It is well documented the knock-on effects tidal energy (in river systems) has. Maybe the cost of up-stream stagnation and then longterm inefficiencies is worth the Green energy benefits; but its hardly a perfect solution like Hydro is.

Truthfully we (every country) should be doubling down on Nuclear, but that isn't particularly politically viable due to a disaster about 35 years back.

Anyone who commutes into London by car should be shot on the spot. No congestion or emission charges. Just shot.

I made a separate point that was flippant & then in a more serious and separate conversation mentioned that to someone else. What next, I say "its no time to joke" and you point out that I made a joke 3 weeks back? What a dumbcunt

If nothing else the police and courts should be following through on the legislation jailing them, maximum fines and whatever else and insurers, employers and commuters should raise civil actions for losses incurred - bankrupt the cvnts.

This comes up on the politics thread from time to time and of course the lefty tree huggers always support the middle class wealthy pensioners clogging up our main roads.

This always leads me to ask how they'd feel if they were being prevented from earning a days money or trying to get a pregnant or ill person to hospital? I'm usually met with the "I wouldn't like it but I'd try and be patient and understanding" response.

What a load of horseshit who wouldn't be livid!

Just walking along my street and choking on fumes. Why should my lungs have to pay for your laziness?

The usual response will be "don't live in a city if you can't handle the pollution then".

Remember when it was "don't go into a pub if you can't handle the smoke".

Yeah that.

You murderers

I get that about Nuclear energy and Chernobyl was a preventable disaster which shouldn’t have happened. But it did.

Maybe the future will be fusion reactors, but probably not in my lifetime 😂 and I’m still struggling with the concept more energy out than more energy in!!

But the really sad thing is there should be enough natural (non-fossil) resources to supply all of the planet’s energy needs. Enough energy from the sun falls on the surface of the earth in one hour to power New York for a whole year. It just too “difficult” or “inconvenient”for the oil/western countries to develop the technology

Can’t believe how many are on here defending their actions.

I don’t know how many people travel on the M25 on your standard day, but to deprive somebody of liberty is to deprive them of their most basic human right.

It precedes state spending; it precedes welfare; it precedes climate change initiatives; it precedes protection and health for god sake. Liberty is quite literally the first and most important human right.

I’m all for doing everything we can in the fight against emissions and climate change and I could not be more supportive of these peoples’ right to protest, but you do not deprive others of their rights to get across your message or demands. I thought we all learnt this when we were toddler age?
