Stop dealing with China?

Ok. Where will we get our products from? Because there sure as hell isn’t anywhere else that provides them in cheap abundance and no; companies and customers won’t pay more.

Pipe dream.

Who said that?

Nobody, but I alluded to our over-dependence. For all its ills, China offers an enormous, stable, trained and obedient workforce great at taking orders, useless at deciding for themselves - manna for most.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Still no idea why he keeps replying to my posts as I’ve said umpteen times I’ve him filtered. But for the record I didn’t say anyone did as you’ve rightly alluded to.

I didn’t realise you had to be asked a direct question before posting these days.

And btw, that neighbour in China, you want to see the vast housing schemes to take the new middle class - makes ours look desirable. Not been for years now but you used to see them flying in when the smog was blown. Brutal.

If you wanted a haunted house for Halloween you could have just booked a ticket to China, they even have complete ghost towns which are scarier than anything I've seen in my life.

But yeah, eventually there's a need to reach consensus even with corrupt dictators, impotent wannabe's and Trump jr.
The problem is the lack of time and Greta's right after all

In my line of work we are definitely starting to see some customers at least establishing a second source of supply for some things within the uk.

For some industries cost doesnt trump security of supply or quality - the pharma industry for one.

The risk of not getting something or the risk of getting something and it not meeting a spec and then having to deal with China over a quality issue are viewed as bigger risks to the supply chain than maybe paying 25% extra for the same component manufactured in the UK.

In my experience the changes in how big companies manage their supply chains is cyclical.

Lets rationalise our complex global network of manufacturingand single source key products from one site instead of making the same thing in ireland, the us and singapore. A few years down the line....there is a major issue at the one site we now manufacture critical products at and supply is interrupted. Lets go back to multi sourcing.

Lets outsource manufacture of as much as we can to china and india because its so cheap and close down our uk sites. Few years down the line - theres a big H&S or environmental issue in China/India which has significantly interrupted supply and escallated the risk rating of that operation - lets go back to investing in UK sites that were earmarked for closure.

True stories.

It wont be the same for all industries where margins are tight but high margin industries like pharma can afford to pay a bit more to have at worst a second source of supply in the UK in order to manage the risk in the supply chain.

We see that too and we also have shareholder pressure put demands on the businesses to procure with “better governance” and ensure our products are sustainable whilst hitting price points and guaranteeing returns.

In most of our companies it’s impossible. No matter where we look throughout the world we still have the China Crisis.

Alluding to an overdependence on something, saying we need to think of some alternatives.. and jumping to cutting the overdependence out compeletely are on opposite ends of the scale

Ginger jumped the gun entirely on your comment.

Pretty sure ginger is the only person to have ever filtered me on here too

All for having a difference of opinion on several issues. Pretty poor that.

Only fandans I've filtered are the ones who are either abusive or jump straight to the usual low hanging fruit topics when discussing our teams (sectarianism, CA etc)

I’m going to guess China. Are you attempting to point-score over what should have been a laughably obvious joke at Ginger’s personal relationship with an entire country?
I don’t give a fvck where you buy anything and have never said anything to the contrary.

Point score? No. Is there a table on here?
Lighten up old chap.

I’m light. But the use of pointless rhetorical questions is usually used for that purpose. Apologies if not then.

But to answer your question, very very very cursory research would suggest my phone was made in Tamil Nadu, India. Although where the parts were manufactured I have no idea.

I’m going to guess Swansea.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Eh?

I don’t have a personal relationship with a country ffs, and if I did it wouldn’t be China

Been there and seen the sweat factories that make the elite billionaires.

My point was that we depend on China far too much, but that finding an equal supplier of quality goods in the commodity markets at a price people in the Western world are prepared to pay is simply a pipe dream and will be for decades to come.

How that was twisted into me jumping the gun or suggesting we just drop them as a supplier are other examples of someone who just likes to pick holes and then giggle about it. It’s not simply a difference of opinion; it was just constant digs that to be honest I eventually couldn’t be rsed with. Hence the filter.

As to why I keep being responded to I’m guessing is to hope it’s copied by someone else or I see it when coming back on after being logged out and answer to it; which admittedly is my mistake. Having things claimed about what you supposedly think on an anonymous forum is as insane as it gets and this can be a pretty weird site at times

So I’m still unsure what the joke was other than seeing daft wee emoji’s. Maybe someone else can enlighten me.

Anyway. Off for a cheeky little Italian supper and then watch Dune at the pictures.

And nope, I’ve never read the books nor seen the series or original film so fwck off with any spoilers

Oh for fvck’s sake. I know you don’t have a personal relationship with China. It was a joke. If it didn’t land you can blame the fact that I’ve had to work two, maybe even three, hours today to make ends meet thanks to those capitalists.

Enjoy Dune. Mind and watch how the suits vent gas, or something.

I haven’t seen it yet. I’m hearing good things though. I think I’ll try for the weekend. It was that or the new Marvel one and, shockingly, that’s not getting great reviews.

I’m not grumpy. I’m just not putting things very well. Sometimes all you can do is give up and start again later.
