not worthy of a well, well, well.

stevie "1 in 9" gerrard will forever be remembered for his success at rangers.

If he'd stayed until the league cup was done they could have played that UB40 tune for him

posted on 11/11/21

Covid saved him at rangers and got him this job eventually. Thems the breaks in life. Now he's earning a fortune at Villa

From the BBC:

December 2018 - Rangers claim their first Old Firm derby win since March 2012, Rodney Jack’s goal enough for a 1-0 victory over Celtic, and Gerrard’s former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers.

February 2020 - Ianis Jago scores twice as Rangers fight back from 2-0 down in their first leg against Braga to win 3-2 at Ibrox. Then won the second leg 1-0 to reach the Europa League’s last 16.

Finger on the pulse with the players names.

Yeah without context though.

Neil Lennon won a Scottish Cup - that's a fact too

Doesn't really tell the full story of how he was schooled by a rookie and his own fans chased him down the road though

It's just the timing of it happening now rather than in 6 months.

_______________

It's defo bad timing. I mean when Rodgers left it was mid Feb and we were 8 points clear.....and the timing then was awful from him. Instead we're in November, uwith it looking like a tight title race, a week away from a cup semi(when he hasn't won a cup comp) and close to a make or break european tie. I can understand why rangers fans would be furious about it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He was always going to leave - no question.

The timing is the worst bit.

Nowhere near as bad timing as when Souness left and he is still regarded very highly by Rangers fans.

The most important thing is the replacement - everything else is a sideshow from Rangers point of view.

He inherited an absolute shambles but gave us pride back in our team, pride back in the European performances, pride back in the old firm game performances, some cracking football to watch, delivered 55, with the added benefit of a meltdown across the city to savour.

Some of the hysteria on social media has been ridiculous - imagine twitter, etc was around when Souness left

I'm disappointed at the timing but it happens, time to move on.

Anyhoo in Lenny we trust

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Souness did get a lot of stick at that time, was hated for quite a while but views softened over time and he's now rightly held in the regard he should be.

The views towards Gerrard will probably depend on how it impacts the rest of the season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think all Managers are viewed a little more kindly after time passes.

Alex Mcleish for instance.

I think NL deserves better than he got at the time and (as corny as it may seem) I hope he gets treated better by his celtic fans in due course

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Tend to agree, obviously not really my place but in the cold light of day for all Lennon achieved at Celtic and gave them it does feel a bit unsavoury with how he's spoken about now. Can't help but think if it wasn't a 10 in a row season there wouldn't be the same sentiment.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Revisionist nonsense. If anything the vitriol he got when appointed was worse. We just had to wait for it to play out and hope.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not how I remember it.

There was angst and disappointment when he was offered the job.

The vitriol came as 'the ten' was failing.

The team bus wasn't chased down the street by his own fans after his job offer

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Then you are confused. The protests were primarily against the board as a culmination of their decision to appoint him in the first instance with the inevitable outcome.

Anonymous board members can be whisked out side doors individually. That some of our more fundamentalist fans chose to protest in the only way open to them by chasing a highly visible team bus was that frustration of not getting at the board boiling over but they had set that pan going long before.

No I'm not

The vitriol he received after being appointed was in no way the same as when the 'ten' was slipping from celtic's grasp.

By any measure

Cups always matter - it's very disappointing when you don't win them.

It does help when you win the biggest league in a generation though.

And your rivals stone/bottle/throw sharks at their team bus.

Helps take the edge off the pain somewhat
