Actually they could still be drawn against each other. The play offs are daft.
It's unlikely but they could miss back to back world cups
I'd be surprised if any if the likely unseeded sides knocked Italy out tbh.
I think Scotland are seeded.
The six seeded teams get drawn as hosts into three paths. The six unseeded teams get drawn against them with the winners of the six one legged semis going into the final to play another one leg game. They do a draw to decide the hosts of those finals.
I asked DJ to do a playoff lowdown article.

Yup, could meet Italy in play off as super NI held Azzurri to a draw in Belfast.
We should have beaten them.
Still some games tomorrow to decide who will be in the play offs. Rob, yeah Scotland are guaranteed a home game in the semis.

At least we’ll be seeded for the world cup group stages. We’ve only been seeded in two world cups since 98.

We played well tonight in fairness. Italy rarely looked like scoring
Japan struggling by the looks of it as well.
In genuine danger now are Italy. Two one off games is never a guarantee and at least one of those games will be against a good side.
I wonder if Mancini would be sacked if they didn’t make it. You’d think the Euros would give him a bulletproof vest
