Except with previous success as a top flight manager. An upgrade in everyway except personal fame / profile, which maybe isn't the worst thing.
Even as a player won the trophy Gerrard really wanted and many many others

What's the feeling from Gers fans about Gerrard overall? Obviously last year was huge for the club but are people gutted that he's gone? Are they annoyed he left during a season?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
how this season pans out will go a long way to how he will be remembered.
win the league he will get our thanks, lose the league and he wont be thought of well at all.

That is massively unfair on GVB. he has double the amount of trophies of Gerrard but in 5 years of management

We were a shambles. 55 was a decade away, Celtics 10 inevitable and Europe was an embarrassment
He brought professionalism back, helped restructure the club and instantly made us competitive in Europe.
Most important he got 55. I wasn't bothered about the 10 but it really seems to annoy the other side. There is no denying it had gone stale this season and maybe this is a blessing in disguise as Gio is an upgrade if you ask me.
All that said the way he left and the timing is poor. No getting away from that. The Aston villa interview was sickening.
A bit like when your bird dumps you and you hear she's going out with someonelse but your ok with it. Then you find out she was seeing him before she left you. Then you find out it's your best mate.
Phew that's that off my chest
Aren’t the Chinese club holding his preferred back room assistant capture?
Seems to all be conditional on him getting his team together before committing. Sounds a bit like the Howe fiasco to me.
Just saying.

I have no qualms with Gerrard going. The opportunity for him was great at Villa. It will be a real test of him which is what he wants so good luck to him.
Gerrard lifted the club when we were at a real low point. Over the piece he was great for us.
Any new guy coming in clearly has the chance to improve things though. As much as they werent the be all and end all we should have landed a domestic cup or two in the past 3 years. We certainly have the squad now to win more trophies.

A Dutch Gerrard would clearly be better than a Greek pedro. I don't think there's any doubt about that.
It’s quite a positive step if we get him imho
Still a bit of a rookie especially compared with Ange’s couple of decades of experience.
Given that relative imbalance, changing a manager mid season and the gulf in resources it really would be a huge embarrassment if Celtic don’t win the league this year.
Huge.

Significantly less than his opponent had and from a significantly poorer starting position. We were 3rd, had Andy halliday as a midfield general. Don't even want to talk about the defence
Absolutely agree though the board backed him to the best of their ability and he should have no complaints

I thought GvB was a great player to be honest and one of those players you enjoyed watching despite playing for a team that you don't like.
Interesting to see how he gets on but I always feel that turning to former players is far from a guarantee of success.

If we can get this over the line I'll be delighted.
Can't think of any other clubs in Scotland who'd be able to attract a former La Liga, English Prem, champions league winner and World Cup finalist to boot.
You might say unprecedented.
