I can’t see anyone paying even half what we paid for him so what do we do?

---------

But you said we should sign him regardless of the cost and as a number 1 priority

All the offloading issues were mentioned but you insisted it didn't matter

Jesting aside.... I don't think it's terminal and is just a run of incredibly dismal form

He's generally been solid so far, this season is the first real dip he's had for us.

I think his nerves gone a bit... Mistakes making him tense and he can't shake it... Nothing a rest won't fix

I'd still prefer someone with a bit of pace tho tbh.

There are people at this club that saw fit to spend £80m on this bloke, and hand him a very lucrative six year contract. I wouldn’t get your hopes up.

We need two new CBs at this rate, one to replace slab and the other for Varane who appears to be a sicknote

I'm still hopeful he can turn it around to the extent that he can get back to the level he was at last season, which was pretty good imo. But the level he's at now is rotten. His decision making, his awareness etc are non-existent.

It goes deeper than that though as the dilly dallying on the ball was bad enough but even when he was forced to make the tackle, it still appeared to be a challenge he could actually take the ball with fairly easily. He kind of went past it to get the man. He seems to have lost his bearings and coordination altogether.

And Lindelof is as useless as ever. Bailly is Bailly. Always on the edge, out of position, last ditch etc. Varane injured too often to be relied upon. Up to you to save us now Phil Jones.

As an aside, Martial for the fourth goal today was amateurish too. Will be interesting to see if the new man can get a performance out of a player who is a waste of talent now and has been for a long time.

It was a shame for him to pick up the injury towards the end of last season, might have got over the line in the Europa final with Maguire in the team.

This season he has been a liability, and think that has also affected the players around him.

Think it was a huge mistake for Ole to keep faith in him, and hope he would play himself back into form. Really should have been ruthless and dropped him, but other than Varane there is no one else that can be relied on.

I agree, he should not be starting against Villarreal.

Set him up in the CB retirement home with Phil Jones

It's an option.

Varane who appears to be a sicknote

Bit harsh, this early.

If we’re all being honest with each other, and if we’d all like to see a Man Utd team restored to where they should be, the likes of Maguire would be fighting for a spot on the bench. That’s the truth. As a true top level performer and defender, the guy is nowhere near what we were all exposed to growing up. He’s very much part of the problem for us being where we are.

We’ve been so poor in our recruitment for many years now with who we’ve bought and what we’ve spent in trying to get them here.

Maguire has been fine enough overall but let’s just all be honest for a moment….

When we were last wining leagues our defence was Rio & Vida

Our midfield was also notably better

And although closest, our attack was probably better overall too.

Imo not in one sector of the team are we top in class overall; hence not consistent and winning things.

Playing FIFA, our team is great probably but we don’t compare to our previous title winning sides and arguably the level has gone up since then. So what do we expect?

Perhaps a new manager could get our current team with lots of ‘nearly’ people to consistent beasts but that’s very few managers, very few.

THIS!

We have so few genuinely top drawer players, we need a manager that can get top performance from average men.

A non-existent midfield only adds to our woes.

I will be amazed if we end up in the top 4, regardless of who comes in after Ole.

Watch Varane’s and Rashford’s injury woes miraculously disappear once we employ a competent manager.

I’m absolutely certain that the PR teams of a number of players will have been coaching these lads to distance themselves as much as possible from Ole’s failure for the sake of their brand.

Probably why Sancho’s agent hasn’t kicked up a fuss. Right now the likes of Sancho, Greenwood, Cavani and Varane are free of the stink of Ole’s failure.

We all know Maguire's limitations. But it's pretty obvious that in usual circumstances the kind of errors we're seeing frequently this season happen about 10x less often. Playing all the time on the back foot creates stress and that leads to mistakes and misjudgements. City players look so serene most of the time not just because they are great players but because the shape of the team is rigorous, they always have options and they are hardly ever finding themselves receiving the ball in a situation for which they haven't been repeatedly drilled what to do.

I don’t think playing on the back foot is the issue for Maguire. In fact, it’s when he plays his best football, as it’s what best suits his attributes and what he has by far the most experience of playing.

Maguire’s a lot better than he’s shown this season. But he’s extremely susceptible to these kind of performances because he’s just not that good a cb.

I agree with the OP. He has been decent for us until this season.
But I lost a lot of faith in him, in fact disliked him, since the Greece fiasco. He acted like an arrogant coward.
I would play him back into form and sell him
