2 midfielders, 1 cb, 1 rb and a keeper... Should be our shopping list next summer

Depends on Greenwood or someone getting or thinking they can a tune from martial... We've numbers, Rashford can play Central
It shouldn't be a priority over midfield tho
when u look at it like that, we replaced Ashley Young with AWB, Lindeloff and Bailly with Maguire and Varane, Herrera with Fred, and Martial with Bruno.
Doesnt seem best £400m spent. i think id act prefer Young and Herrera tbh. Maguire enough said. Bruno is getting more terrible with each game. Not sure how he keeps his place in the team.

I don't think that front 3 would be good enough to challenge for the title unfortantely, Sancho has shown nothing at international level or in the premier league, and Rashford is too inconsistent.
But it's may be the best option unless we managed to sign a Haaland.

Agree with this entirely. There is an interchangeability within that front 3. Use Elenga, Amad, Pellistri, etc as backup.

Maguire and Varane more or less replaced Smalling and Rojo.
The rebuild was a failure for ole.
Maguire and AWB are such an incredible waste of money that it beggars belief that they were signed for those horrendous amounts
Until these 2 are sold, we're not winning anything.

Exactly this. We all know we got ripped off with Maguire and AWB.
Maguire seems to be able to perform with England so I my mind there is definitely a coaching issue going on there. AWB is just a poor quality defender as is Lindelof.
It remains to be seen what a new manager can do with these players, but I can not for the life of me think there is another one who thinks Fred and McTomimay is a good idea in a midfield two.

Greenwood is your next Ronaldo, Gerrard, Henry style player.....he's that guy with that right coaching.
Sancho is a wonderful creative player but without a hood system these players drown.

You need a tactically good manager with an attacking style and to buy players that suit his system. Until you do that you will never have what you want.

We are at least 1 elite manager, and 3 world class signings from challenging for a title, and it isn't easy getting one of these, nevermind all 4.
some very generous marking going on here, personally i'd say we've spent c. £400m to barely improve the first 11 (though the squad is significantly stronger).
we're a bit stronger in defence - especially since lindelof and bailly would be lucky to play 20 games together a season - but i'd take the old front 6 over the new one.
the midfield in particular was both much better and much better balanced, i can see exactly what the roles of the 3 midfielders were, and, at the time at least, all 3 of those were capable of playing their role to a reasonably high standard. the shame is that we barely even saw that combination much at all, partly because matic got real old real quick, and partly because we allowed herrera to walk away for free. i saw a stat recently that said that that particular midfield trio won 17 of the 20 matches they played together, which sounded a bit high to me, but i do remember it being better than anything we have played since. and certainly much better than the weird 4-2-4 we play these days, which has looked utterly disjointed for a long time now.
and that has been reflected in the numbers, these days almost everything about our results is worse - fewer points, fewer trophies, and a worse gd (we score more but concede even more) - and we look worse as a team.
