I think it's far too early to be calling us decisive and United clowns for delaying Ole's sacking. For a start we don't know how things will end up under Conte but the law of averages says that given he's an intense character with intense methods, it blows up after season two or, at most, three. What's left behind is often difficult to clear up, not dissimilar to a post-Jose era. I'm pleased we have Conte, don't get me wrong. He's a brilliant manager but he needs consistent backing and I have my doubts that the ownership will keep up with his demands. So you have to ask yourself whether he is right for us in the current structure.
I think United are playing a smarter game. They're looking for the holistic, long term approach where success is made and a legacy is created. You don't get that with Conte but you do with Poch. I'm amazed it's taken them this long to realise it but when you've been through Van Gaal and then Jose, the idea of appointing Conte just felt too similarly short term. If they get Poch then I think they've won the managerial lottery here, not us. He could win a lot with their budget and who knows, he might even end up there longer than he was with us, which is a painful thought.
Let's see where we are in a couple of years before calling this because from where I'm sitting, based on the structure of the two clubs, United are the winners, not us.

why are you predicting doom and gloom already. Conte is nothing like Jose, not least because he is at the top of his game and Jose was passed his sell by date a good few years ago.
Anyone can says "let's wait and see" when comparing Spurs and Utds managerial position needs their head read. Are you promoting that we should have kept Nuno or appointed Mason as temp because you don't seem happy with the appointment of a proven winner as our manager.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not predicting doom and gloom. I'm just providing some much needed balance to this comment
"I think our actions were prompted by the turmoil at Old Trafford, we pulled the trigger first and Utd are left now with nowhere to go."
...that you made in the main article. This is by no means a Conte bashing. I'm excited about what he can do as he is, without question, one of the world's best but he is a demanding figure. That much you can't deny. He will demand not just from the players but the ownership too. My issue is less with Conte and more towards an expectation that the current ownership won't match his ambitions financially. I think that's a pretty safe bet. They're businessman, not some Middle Eastern prince hellbent on sportswashing whatever the cost. If you think the current outlay will be enough to satisfy Conte then great. I don't think it will be so for all the short term success we may have, the car crash that will follow might be a tough watch.
You've made it sound like United are fecked. They're not at all. Pochettino, as much as it pains me to say it, is the perfect boss for them. They're unusually patient for such a successful club, they'll give him time and, crucially, the kind of funds we couldn't provide him. It's a match made in heaven.
To my mind, we've both done well to replace Ole and Nuno with Poch and Conte but my bet is that only one club will be cruising near the top and picking up trophies three years from now and it won't be us. I'd like us to be a big team for a long period, not just for two years.
Oh, and my comparison with Jose was purely about the average tenure and the financial demands, not necessarily about their specific abilities. I think it's perfectly valid, if not undeniable.
You are predicting the powers will not meet his demands and it will end in tears.
He has never really been about how much is spent, more a case of who is bought (or sold in the case of Inter).
I see the conflict being more about the type of player, rather than how much money will be spent.
There is a conflict when you have a top manager such as this brought in to make us a success but on a short deal. By its very nature this will demand quality signings to make an instant impact.
I do not think the club have an issue spending money that we have, and we now have much bigger resources than the past. The problem will be spending £30m on a 29 year old defender or the same or more on a 22 year old defender. Conte will want the experience and Levy will want the younger.
So there will need to be a balance found between purchasing players with a long future at the club and players who are quality and will make an impact.
I think the approach will be, judging by some of the rumours circulating, that we will target some established players towards the end of their contracts (and then their age matters less as the fee will be lower) as well as more youthful prospects who will cost a lot more.
January will be telling. I think it helps massively that the DOF is a compatriot and worked with Conte before.
