On the flip side though Chelsea have put a good chunk of their halfway line season tickets up to £3500-4000 from next season. £1500 to sit behind the goal. That does include home cup ties but it's still absolutely grotesque.

Oil money is great for the game eh lads? 😂

Is ‘oil money’ driving up the prices of Chelsea’s season tickets?

Roman running out of money paying 14 year olds millions to join the academy most likely. 😂

I think it’s more the case of it being a numbers game. Didn’t they have literally hundreds out on loan at one point? You’d expect half a dozen or more to come good.

Musiala at Bayern is also one of ours

&

He hasnt really made it yet but Eddie Nketiah was with us for longer than Declan Rice was

Under Jody Morris we had the most dominant youth sides of all time

The best of which are the ones coming through in the senior teams now

People pointing at money spent

The academy and this strategy makes money

Loans receive fees from the other clubs
Also large sales for low initial investment in players like Tomori

I believe the Busby Babes were the only team that were comparable in the FA Youth Cup to the recent Chelsea sides, Blarmy.

It’s a strategy that makes money for Chelsea. Not everyone is in a similar position to take advantage of it in the way Chelsea have. Roman’s ownership allows for Chelsea to operate in this way. There’s a reason the only comparable academy in England is City’s.

Even City don’t have the same advantage due to geography. London is the epicentre for English talent nowadays.

It sort of worked too well though

We've been losing players for nothing or tribunal decided amounts.

Lamptey and Liveramento came through and saw Reece in their potential 1st team spot. Made sense to move away within the PL, even if they go on loan James has that spot probably for the next 10 years

Is there a limit what youth players can be paid or is it just what the club wants to pay ?

posted on 24/11/21

A worthy price to pay I guess. It does show that it’s so difficult to plan academy paths to the first team, though.

I’m sure you can find plenty of examples of three players all coming out of an academy and playing in the top league within a couple of years of each other.

But never would all three be in a position like right back.

I think you could pay what you want but few clubs are gonna risk super high wages on prospects, even us and City

Certain teenage wonderkids get pro contracts early right?

Like Rooney was surely on a pro contract already at Everton

posted on 24/11/21

You can’t get a pro contract until 17 I think.

From what I’ve read Chelsea’s youth contracts are much higher than everyone else’s. I guess because it’s a numbers game, with there being a lot of talent and competition from other clubs in London, and the way Chelsea use the loan system for their academy players, it’s overall financial well worth it.

Whether it’s worth it for the players is another debate. Having the best academy training isn’t always better than having a better pathway to first team football from a younger age.

I think we’ve won the debate for the moment with the sheer volume displayed in the OP tbh Jadon

Apparently we always wanted the first team pathway there but it didnt mesh well with the pressure Roman put on managers to get results

That changed with Lamps and the transfer ban

posted on 24/11/21

I don’t think it’s a debate that can be won or lost, to be honest. The volume displayed in the op shows that Chelsea have the best academy, I don’t think that necessarily means that their way of doing things is always the best for the career of the players, there’s far too many variables for that debate to ever be closed.

I dont think you measure an academy just on 1st team players produced for their club but on total top level players produced regardless of where they sign

So for me this is what winning the debate looks like

I concede it will no doubt stop working at some point, football is very cyclical in general

posted on 24/11/21

I’m aware of that, but it doesn’t win any debate because it’s unknowable how these players would have developed at other clubs. This isn’t really a Chelsea thing, it’s true of players from all the big club’s academies.

Chelsea are obviously doing a fantastic job with their academy regardless. Obviously the talent is there, but the Lampard experiment looks like it’s going to be beneficial long term for the academy.

Yeah probably is. How? They just focus it, sheer numbers game in a way cause they turnover that many. But also they clearly invest a lot in it be it money or time . They also sell a lot of them for good money, they lost livramento for like 5m somehow but got 20+ for tomori and some other kid to palace?

A lot of them are English or eligible to play for England too so its good for our national team. They switched their model so well that now theyre pretty much self sufficient. Still spend a lot and have probably second biggest most expensive squad in the league but they also balance the books by selling talent well.

Run very well and got a very good manager for it. Future Looking good for them. Theyre not able to keep them all happy so clubs like palace and southampton are reaping the benefit too.

It's not just money, clearly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s mainly money. Compared to other academies, Chelsea’s investment is obscene.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, just chucking money at children turns them into top footballers. Are you bitter or stupid?

posted on 24/11/21

Who said anything about just chucking money at kids? It’s not my fault you are too stupid to understand what investment means.
