Arsenal getting top 4

Errr....your where you are because you have only played the bottom half of the table.
Only decent team played in the last couple of months, and you get thrashed last weekend.
Your theory only holds if you keep playing the rubbish teams each week. Trouble is the fixture list doesn't work like that.
Once you actually start playing good teams, you will be back to mid table.

I don't see us ever stepping up beyond that with Arteta as manager. Even many of the positive results against poor sides are grinds that could've gone either way

God, I wish we were flat track bullies. If that was true, as it was at the end of Wenger's reign, we would be always hovering around the CL positions.

We have played most of the teams expected to be in the hunt for that 4th place in that time and beaten them.

Positions of the clubs we haven't played this season:
9th, 12th, 14th, 16th, 17th, 4th and 6th.

Top half - 3
Bottom half - 4

Therefore we have played:
1st, 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 8th, 10th
11th, 13th, 15th, 18th, 19th and 20th.

Top half 6
Bottom half 6

Therefore, we have actually played a bigger percentage of the other teams in the top half than the bottom half.

But, agree with the OP.
For 4th you are probably looking at around 73 points.
That is 23 wins and 4 draws - or 22 wins and 7 draws.
We are on track with that, although beating the likes of United and West Ham will make that task a lot easier.

Bit like Spurs then?

If we stay in touch till around February/March we will have a good chance of top four all the other teams will start to feel the pace having played more games than us and the likes of West Ham and Tottenham don't have squads to compete on multiple fronts. We will have a better chance of taking points off the other team towards the top of the league especially if they are still in Europe. If we could get a good striker in January that would help even more.

Yup. That’s the plan.

That’s all we can do at the moment, we’re clearly not near the level of the top 3 yet. You don’t have to beat the best to be 4th, as we saw under Wenger in the emirates era, we usually got a hammering by top clubs but beat most of the rest so routinely got top 4. Obviously not the ideal situation the club should see itself long term, but realistically for next couple seasons that’s where we’ll be if we want to push to next level.

I've just read something saying the Kronkes plan to add 1 or 2 marque signings every window. If we get the right 2 in January top 4 could be on.

Our defence is ok now. Need a midfielder and a new striker. Hopefully we can sell pepe for around £25m and Leno for £20m

Better than we all have expected after the bad season start. Personally I don't believe we can make it into the top 4. Young team and at times a bit naive.

Top 6 is realistic. Would be happy with that. Let's see how far it takes us in the cup competitions.

I fully expect us to make top four so long as we stay with the predominantly attacking setup. It's not delusion about the ability of the team, just factoring of all things considered. If we had European footy to contend with and a less kind fixture schedule, same team would have to be focused on winning EL as their potential CL route because 4th would be spider silk thread of a chance. However we have no Europe and have lucked out bigtime with fixture scheduling. City, Chelsea and Pool will all be out of the way by end of Feb and two of them have to play us contending with CL ties. It's gotta be the EASIEST run-in we've had in donkeys.

Arteta's been handed a luckyass golden opportunity of the back of his shocking failure, to bounce us back into Europe bypassing one or two more seasons EL. ALL he has to do to capitalise is just keep going as he has since game four and let the team truly settle. If he can't manage that simple task then regardless how he's trying to play he definitely has to get the boot come seasons end. Because it'll be categoric proof he's no top team manager. Any one of those could do this standing on their heads, it's that much of a "Daaamn, you lucky fkr" footy fates GIFT!

Dude already got an entire season of slack. He doesn't deserve to be cut any more so...

After Stan has just been fined $800m?

I'd say them selling up is more likely than spending.

Stan hasn't alone been fined, the NFL is the main protagonist because they are ones who gave Stan permission to move. And its a drop in the ocean for them. That pay their CEO c$130m a year.

We shall see, I don't see us spending much, if anything in January though.

Hope I'm wrong.

posted on 29/11/21

I hope Arsenal target Renato and allow Xhaka to move. That leaves Leno and Laca. I am sure there will be CL clubs after them. Already strong links with Barca for Laca. So we will need a no.10. Jovic looks a possibility but not sure who go after.
