Still early days though isn't it. Can't say I know much about virus spread and how it works but IF this strain is not as dangerous wouldn't it actually be a smart move to allow it to spread and eliminate the more dangerous strain?
The reality is the don't know much about the Omicron varient yet and won't know enough for 2-3 weeks so they've just gotta crack on with the vaccines as planned
And in letting it spread and having people infected would surely lead to protection against the more dangerous strains also?
I’m honestly sick of this pi$h
For me, there comes a point where we just need to start getting on with it…and I think I somewhat sub-consciously reached that point about 6 months ago.
I haven’t stopped working since the whole thing started back in March 2020 either
I also went down to England in October, and it was as if COVID never existed, they weren’t giving a monkeys down there whatsoever
“Do so at your own risk” is a term that I think is long overdue being applied in terms of COVID
Time to move on for me, can’t continue to pander to something that for most folk means spending a few days in their pit if they catch it
Time to move on for me, can’t continue to pander to something that for most folk means spending a few days in their pit if they catch it
_______________
It's never been about that, it's been about staggering cases so that hospitals don't get overwhelmed, places don't shut down by having everyone off at once etc.
I hope we're close to that point now and as the virus mutates we just have yearly jabs like the flu for those who want them
This variant may have milder symptoms but it appears to be more transmissible meaning those who are not vaccinated will be more likely to catch it.
Re-arrange omicron.

I understand that, but as said, it appeared to me that there were virtually no restrictions in place down south…and as far as I’m aware, hospitals down there weren’t being overwhelmed over the last few months
We are now heading into winter when more folk take ill….is that the only reason why this is happening?
I dunno, but as said, sick to the back teeth with it
Hospitals not being overwhelmed? They have not only jabs, boosters and flu jabs to dish out but they we are still getting about 40,000 cases a day uk wide and have to deal with the daily everyday stuff thats been backlogged for almost 2 years now..
My missus works in the Queen Elizabeth and its been busy constantly not only that staff are going off sick either because they have something or are knacked physically or mentally..
But hey your sick of it so I guess that means it's over and like Boris and his La La land brigade lets close our eyes and pretend it doesn't exist.....
The only thing thats down is the deaths.. not hospital admission and thats down to a reasonable number of people being vaccinated..
Do I really need to spell all that out? cos i kinda think i do with some of these comments.

There's no b in omicron
Nobody knows what the Long term effects of omicron will be. Just allowing people to catch it probably isn't a great idea.
Long covid might have the most significant effect of this whole thing. Its not pleasant

My mum works in a hospital down the west country and she's been signed off with stress for a few weeks now. It seems to be a continual cycle of people being overworked, seeing many patients die, which then pushes them to breaking point and leaves others to then pick up the slack until they themselves break. It sounds horrible.
I also went down to England in October, and it was as if COVID never existed, they weren’t giving a monkeys down there whatsoever

And yet there are people here in England who seem to think we've lived in a totalitarian dystopia since March 2020
At what point does it all stop then?
Do we teeter on the brink of a lockdown everytime a new variant appears?
My wife's a doctor here in Tenerife, and we've both had our two vaccine shots. Now at the hospital they're having their booster jabs. She's holding back though, giving herself time to read up on what the actual science says, not the mainstream media or the social network whackos.
Apparently, the overall benefits of the booster jab are not all that evident. Most of the recommendations stemmed from the Israeli study of a few months back, which found that the chances of getting a severe case of Covid was a fair bit lower if you'd had the booster; what wasn't that broadly publicised was that apparently the risk without the booster was already minimal, so it's not really that clear that it's a risk that's actually worth reducing.
The original vaccine rollout I think was necessary, but extending it to kids, for example, when they are at almost zero risk is completely unjustified, much more so when we don't know its potential long-term effects. Likewise, the benefits of the booster jab need to be properly explained. It might turn out that there are high risk groups who it would benefit to have the extra shot, but lower risk cohorts for whom there is no clear benefit. At least here in Spain, vaccine take up has been very high, and with a far lower number of severe cases and hospitalisations, I think it's time for the authorities to weigh their decisions more carefully. I can understand the kneejerk decisions made in a situation of extreme emergency and panic, but I don't think that's where we're at any more.
I think it's really getting to the stage where the poorer countries need our attention to ensure they get vaccinations. There's no point in us going second, third boosters etc when there's places that still have vast majorities unvaccinated.
