I've been a regular critic of Costa, Roberts and Cooper for some time - this and last season. Got to say that both Roberts and Cooper have stepped it up of late, particularly Cooper, but I don't see them as long term first team players because I don't think they're good enough for this level. It's very true that Roberts is not particularly effective as a striker; and it's also very true that Cooper seems very susceptible to clumsy challenges and gaffes.

I'm just an ordinary fan, and I don't bother with stats. I don't presume to know more about football than Bielsa or even some of the regulars on this board. Tell me I'm wrong if you like but don't tell me I can't voice my opinion.

totally agree. i was a critic (maybe the only one) of saiz. didnt like his game at all but he seemed to be very popular. criticizing a player because hes made mistakes in the past is just stupid and i dont see that too often on here.
i also agree roberts and cooper will have to be replaced if we want to progress. but if they have a good game why complain. its what we all want isn't it.

Roberts was good last night, but for me, James was the star man. Raphinha may have been the golden boy, but James was awesome

I don't think anyone says that Cooper should be a mainstay. They just ask you to appreciate that he has been broadly excellent for three years, instead of just focusing on isolated moments, which far too many do..

Voice your opinio all you want, but I'm going to call you out on it if it's illogical and poor.

Fair enough - I'm happy to be called out. Like I said, I'm certainly no expert.

And perhaps we needed the result last night so badly at this point that it was too risky to start with Gelhardt.

In any case I'm happy again! Amazing what a spirited performance AND all three points can do!

I didn't think Roberts was our worse player, not with Struijk and Klich on the pitch, both rightly replaced at half time but it clearly shows football is game of opinions, to say as the OP does that people who think he had a stinker don't understand football is saying "my view is worth more than other's views".
Of the pundits Beren Cross scored him 5, Steve Pearson 5, Graham Smyth 7 and Craig Scott 5. Nobody scored him as worst player on the pitch but nobody gave him very high marks either.
I tend to trust the views of the professionals more than someone on here after all they have shown they know a bit about the game, I don't know that you have faith.
Tyler has had so many awful games that people on here tend to notice his mistakes more than most.

Tyler hasn't been good enough to be a solution for us going forward. He hasn't proved that he has the ability to take us forward and certainly hasn't created enough at this level. I don't think any 'apologist' will disagree with that.

But what the 'apologists' will disagree with, is a player being scapegoated and blamed for so much that's wrong with the side. Being accused of being the worst player on the pitch before the game has even kicked off. And the abuse he gets online and from a vocal minority at the ground.

A bloke sat behind me laughing and slagging him off everytime he got the ball. And that should p1$$ you off on a human level. Come back and see that 90% of the criticism on the match day thread is for a player that quite obviously played a decent game. And while still doesn't do enough to be considered a starter he obviously wasn't the worst player on the pitch. Football is about opinions, unfortunately it appears to be about grudges, agendas and prejudice too.

Like I said Roberts hasn't created or scored enough to prove he is capable of providing the level we need to progress. However, everyone watching should see that he has some very good technical abilities that so far haven't translated into highlights on the pitch regularly enough. A lot of that could be due to confidence, especially in the final third. We saw this with Bamford and the way he was hounded by fans, possibly a coincidence but it's amazing how much more clinical he was without fans in the grounds. So sorry for 'aplogising' for a young lad that if given support by his own fans could actually develop into a very useful player for us if given a chance. And you know what, if it doesn't work out he doesn't the abuse regardless.

Football is all about opinions but Roberts was not the worse player on the pitch...fact.
