Why do people still do this?

Why the surprise? We are surrounded by arseholes, probably around 40% of the population. Have the last couple of years taught you nothing?

Not to point fingers but Liverpool fans do it every year at the bridge. I think ignorance is the main thing at play tbh. I don’t think any genuine offence is meant but yeah the genuine assholeness seems to come out in footy fans. I see it every week first hand.

People do it because other people react to it and they get the attention they crave when BBC publish an article about it.

It's a vicious circle that the media have no intention of doing anything other than perpetuating because they can constantly print articles about it.

I am not one of that 40%, i converse with those less fortunate than myself and put in time with them. Case in point being yesterday, i must have spent a couple of hours responding to you on one of your 'cry for help' threads.

What about the Jimmy Saville chants? Never makes the news and is far worse if you ask me.

posted on 1/12/21

Without getting themselves in trouble can anyone shed some light on the chant? or why it is being aimed at him?

We all know it is wrong, we've all seen the stories of people getting records for sending abuse and yet, people still do it.

Clubs can easily tell who culprits are.

Thoroughly agree. But then as WW in my view rightly points out, the stick directed our way, pretty much every match by away support, I find offensive. I don't, in anyway, want to be associated with that vile creep.

I "accept" it's part of football rivalry and goading each other ... but it would be better if media approached all abuse - but then it's a footie ground and some stuff is just likely to happen I guess?

Homophobic, racist or other abuse needs to change ... as you rightly say, times have changed (largely for the better).

Yeah, clubs should definitely be stronger and so to should fans at games, it isn't that hard to take note of a seat number and report it.

How can you possibly take the number of a seat, unless you're literally sat next to them? It's not going to happen.

I was MK Dons some years back, some Leeds fans were throwing coins at MK Dons fans.

I confronted them about it, called stewards, called police and club afterwards.

No action taken.

Ok, so in this case, a few thousand fans singing this chant. You start going round counting rows and seats and jotting them down? You’re on another planet.

Isolated incidents like coin throwing, monkey chanting are easy to report, but how can you police thousands of fans chanting? The only way is it punish the club and to be honest, unless it’s a serious problem like racism or happening all the time, it’s never going to happen.

I’ve been to hundreds of Leeds games and yes over the years some pretty bad chants, but in the last 10 years the homophobic stuff is few and far between.

Moronic behaviour

What makes this even more stunning is the fact here is a player that 99% of leeds fans would love to sign. When he returns to Chelsea in the close season he may well be available for transfer. Price won’t be cheap. Palace may not be able to afford him. If Leeds remain in the premier league he would have made a great fit. The chances of him coming to leeds any time soon have nigh on evaporated.

Ken Bates didn’t get much right but he was correct to label such fans morons!

posted on 1/12/21

And it’s quite simple. We have a massive waiting list for season ticket holders. States in the terms of buying a season ticket that you behave! These fans have clearly breached. I don’t care whether it’s 100 or 3000 singing it they should be identifying them all on the cctv footage and giving them all a letter putting them on a final warning - behave or your losing your season ticket.
