And Ronaldo's continuing to score in a tough league. I keep hearing how poor Ligue 1 is apart from PSG, and Messi's only scored once in it since his move.

Thing is Messi is not a striker anymore. Since MSN fell apart, Messi became more of a midfielder, but still scores crazy amount of goals.

Pathetic Messi fangirl, so embarrassing

And I’d be pissssed if I was Ronaldo, too. Listening to the argument that Messi is better because he won a popularity contest more often than him
----------------------------------------------------------------------
LOL, only thing Ronaldo is better than Messi is popularity. He wins in likes on Instagram, but on the pitch Messi wins. Not only his stats are better, but all around he is twice a player Ronaldo is.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
twice the player?
one thing ronaldo does much better is pull his country to good heights. messi finally won something with argentina while being in a much weaker group of teams.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You think a player with 80 international goals does not lift his country to great heights. The deluded European snobbery against South American teams is also funny. Historically, the weakest teams in South America are Bolivia and Venezuela, who would be average standard European teams. There are no Andorras, Liechtensteins, San Marinos, Luxembourgs, Faroe Islands, Gibraltars etc to plunder goals against?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

but on the flip side argentina have brazil and possibly uruguay at a push to compete with

Portugal have

spain
france
england
spain
italy
belguim
holland

massive difference
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Portugal rarely need to beat any 2 of those teams though. They won the Euros with a run of matches that was Iceland, Austria, Hungary in the group stages (finishing 3rd among the 4 teams), beat Iceland and Poland on pens, and their only decent performance of the tournament against Wales, then the flukey final win against France. Their victory was similar to Greece in 2004 - except Greece had a harder run of games. Let's not pretend winning the Euros requires you to face all these monster teams.

Maybe those foreign leagues aren't that poor. And yes, Messi is out of form and probably unhappy since the Barca divorce. Doesn't mean anything about his quality as a player. He'll probably age worse than Ronaldo because Ronaldo is basically a cyborg.

One of the bigger scams in the Messi-Ronaldo comparison (other than the myth Ronaldo is a better performer for Portugal) is using their goal-scoring as a basis in evaluating their contributions (and Messi has still been the greater goal scorer for most of his career) - and it often comes from the kind of people who think it's crazy to suggest Gerrard and Lampard are better than Scholes because they were more productive in goals and assists. Messi could score about 2/3rds of Ronaldo's goals and I'd still rate him the better player.

And Ronaldo's doing it in a team that play like they only just met before kick off. It's like bringing a ringer to a Sunday League game.

Exactly. If you take away goals from Ronaldo you got an average player. If you take away goals and even assists from Messi, you still have a best player.

That's a false equivalence though. Ronaldo's entirely focused his game on goalscoring, and that's his value to the team. If Messi's not assisting or scoring what would you class him as?

No point arguing with Messi fan bois, they are so far up their own backsides that there is no room in their mind to even debate.

This is direct reply to a comment that said he has scored one goal.
'crazy amount of goals'.

The OP is pretty special.

You'd still have an Iniesta-like player who probes and dribbles and unbalances teams and find passes through the lines.

But never scores or assists? (that was the scenario)

Not sure you'd put him up with the best in the world on that basis. I'm not sure Ronaldo is any more either, but he's still delivering what his role in the team is all about, and his numbers are still terrific.

Iniesta or Modric rarely scored or assisted, but were pretty highly rated as world class.

Ronaldo fanboys like him because he has six pack and looks good but can't admit that someone is better, just like man himself.

This is the kind of silly statement that clearly puts someone in the fanboy camp.

Ronaldo was never an average footballer. He was already considered one of the world's top footballers before he became a goal machine, winning all sorts of individual awards as a youngster and was runner-up for the Ballon d'Or in 2007.

I've always considered Messi the more gifted of the two, but statements like yours just make you look stupid.
