Prime Hargreaves to complete the 3
The idea of Gerrard in a United shirt makes me sick.
Good player but not a great one. And part of a coaching set up that was clearly not working.
Good call for him to leave.
I hate to say this, but Carrick showed more maturity and personality in three games than Ole in three years.

I totally agree that he had to leave as he was part of the Ole staff. But I think he was a great player
I’d hate you to say that too, because it would be inaccurate.

Let's hope Fletch & Mike do the right thing and leave too for a much needed fresh start.

Why must Fletcher leave?
Carrick was a great payer for Fergie's Man United
Just seen this news and really disappointed. I was hoping Carrick would stick around under Rangnick and the next manager. I'm guessing he was pushed but said he jumped, is that right?
Underrated his whole career, what a player and what a servant to the club he's been
Surprised that Carrick isn't staying around, but as a player I could not see him wanting to play Ralf's high intensity Gorgonzola so if you don't believe in it, then you can't coach it.
Bit of a shame for him, would've probably been an excellent learning experience to work under Rangnick but can understand from a club POV why it makes sense to pretty much clear house from the OGS era

Disagree VC. Carrick did the job. Almost like how Henderson is today. Not a gifted player but a work horse that allowed others to shine.

He was extremely gifted, Clevs, great passer and great reader of the game. Its someone like him we need on the pitch now.
Yeah, Carrick was a very good passer with either foot. Was underrated at a time when the world generally didn't appreciate the role of a DM (unless they were running around at 100mph tackling and fouling people, making them noticeable, like Gattuso).
Ralf probably wants his own man as number 2 and its better they say that he quit on his own initiative than having to sack him.
I don't think VC is saying Carrick wasn't a good player. Just that he wasn't great. Was he of the level of Keane, Scholes, Gerrard or Vieira? Not for me, albeit he was a very different player.
So whilst he was a very good and important player, he maybe isn't quite in the category of great. All depends on how you define it though.
The greatest ever United manager.
0% defeats.
Only played big teams.
Replaced by a company man. Disgrace.

I don't think anyone would disagree with the idea he was a level below the absolute greats. Personally, I was objecting to the 'workhorse' description. He had a great deal more finesse to his game than Henderson (who has himself been underrated by our fans over the years).
While he was known for the rhythm of his passing keeping the midfield ticking over, his progressive long passing was excellent as well, and he was always looking for an opportunity to play people in.
I suspect part of his being overlooked is that he didn't get forward and score much (apart from the odd beauty like the Roma game).
I remember foreign journalists appreciating him more, with pieces like 'Carrick plays like an Italian' after CL games against their teams, and this one I found after a short bit of digging

I remember an interview with Xavi where he talked about English footballers, where he enthused about Carrick. (Scholes was the contemporary he most admired, and he grew up idolising Matt Le Tissier.)

Seems to change his mind as often as his boxer shorts, however....
Xavi also singled out Liverpool as the Premier League team he would most like to represent, but added that he would never have left Barcelona.
"The Premier League is a very attractive. Liverpool, for example, is a team that has something special - the stadium, the fans, everything.
"Enough about Carrick, lets talk about Liverpool"
Carrick was a great player for us...not a top top player though.
