12 years at and not far off 500 appearances for the club as a player. 5 league titles (how many players have done that), CL title, EL title, two League Cups, FA Cup, multiple other minor trophies and individual honours.

And just a magnificent player, also representing the club in the right way on and off the field.

Definite legend for me, and one of my favourite ever United players.

One of my favourite players too, ever. A pity he was never valued by the England managers.

He would add so more to our current team at his peak.

So frustrating that he couldn't see or influence in his role that a player of his mould in his prime would have this team doing bits man😢

No real evidence that he didn’t He could have and it fell on deaf ears or maybe we tried and failed to sign a player of his ilk.

Carrick is probably one of the most underrated PL midfielders, one of my favourites. He probably should go into managing later on, I think he can do a good job.

He would do well to spend time getting his UEFA Pro A Licence.

He'd probably do a better job in the middle of the park now than most of the Man U midfielders

Sounds like a flag parade is in order.

I say to this day that he became the player he was because of learning from Edgar Davids when the two played in midfield for us. Carrick was still young and learning his trade, and Edgar was at the opposite end of his career. Davids was a sublime midfielder in his day and I think he influenced Carrick a lot.

I don't remember Davids ever playing for United???

I didn't realise they were at Spurs at the same time. Not a bad influence to have!

If only Winks had learned from Modric or Dembele or Eriksen.

I know the circumstances were unusual, and it was only three games, but he seemed to know what he was about. And a very dignified exit, something you don’t see that often in football. Pretty classy really.

I loved everything about his departure. I am a firm believer in his abilities as a player and a Manager

I was surprised how gutted I felt about his unexpected announcement. He has always been a class act, and I've loved seeing him step up and conduct himself with such dignity, making good decisions and telling changes to get crucial results while obviously burdened by his friend's sacking and feeling shared responsibility for the plight of the club he loves.

Carrick was a wonderful servant to the club, but he made the right choice to take a break. He needs time to perfect his style but before that, he needs to recharge his batteries. The guy has not stopped working even after he retired. Maybe he will have become a top manager in a few years and be in contention for Utd's manager. Good luck and thanks to him.
