Decent signing imo. Great energy, quite creative and a battler too.

Villa don’t need the money and with United’s record of always overpaying for British players, £50m would be cheap.

We've been linked with him for a few seasons and nothing has materialised. I can't see it personally. A decent player from what I have seen, but not the level we require to have a big impact on the CM.

Good player and he'd improve us, that's all that matters. If be happy if that was true.

Haven’t seen enough of him to be convinced he’s better than what we have.

I think Rice should be the one we move for.

Yeh, I think Rice is probably the one. We need a decent DM, but we also need a leader in that midfield. I think that McT has the character to be a future United captain, but I don't think that he has the quality to be a first team regular. Maybe in a few years time, but at the moment, he is a squad player for me. Rice, who is captaining West Ham at such a young age, would add some quality to that area for the next decade and also bring some leadership. I think that he is a future England captain and having him in the squad would be a bonus moving forwards as our younger (especially English) players come through the ranks and have that leader to look up to.

Not worth more than 30m. Doubt it's a true however

Villa should bite their hand off at that offer. One of the most overrated players in the Premier League.

Double the price and more limited/specialised , good at his role as a destroyer, but that’s about it, limited passer. Too expensive imo.

Not for me, maybe good as a squad player but not first team quality.

I haven't been watching West Ham that regularly but I've heard people who do saying Rice is getting better and better, and is adding progressive passing to his defensive capabilities. Obviously, I can't judge whether that's true but there is a phenomenon of fans of other teams pigeon-holing a player early in their career and (not seeing a lot of contradictory evidence in the meantime) persevering with that view long after it's disproven. I remember Arsenal fans maintaining that Reyes was better than Ronaldo as late as 2008.

But Declan Rice
Is twice the price

posted on 6/12/21

What's a Declan Rice and what does it do? John McGinn has been arguably the best international footballer in the world in the past 3 years. He has been amongst the top scorers in euros and world Cup qualifiers. He has scored some of the best goals of all time. He can play in a forward role as well as being a midfielder destroyer and never stops running. I am not entirely sure if Rice can run? Although I don't watch him play, because he is so boring. Can't compare the two. Unless we get Rice, then I rare him higher.

McGinn doesn't particularly look like a Ralf Rangnick transfer: he's not that young.

The only reason we'd make a move for someone like him now would be if he arrived too late for the club to do homework on a player with a preferable profile, and Rangnick thought we desperately needed reinforcement.

United are weak in midfield and don't really have an enforcer. Rice would do a better job than McFred on his own and allow United to play another forward thinking midfielder.

McGinn has a good highlight reel due to his low centre of gravity and decent shot, but outside of that he can't pass, isn't the best with positioning and is knackered after 60 minutes. He is absolutely not what United need, which is probably why you will sign him.

They can spend £100 million on a player who will actually improve them, or they can spend £50 million overpaying for a player they don't need, meaning they have to still spend the money on the position in the summer. We all know which of those is the United way now.

Don’t really agree with much of that. I’d like us to look at other options than rice for DM. He’s decent, but not that good from what I’ve seen, certainly not 100m worth. McGinn isn’t a DM, so wouldn’t be the same position.

McGinn is a decent player but for £50m? Not for me. I'm not sure if he improves United all that much anyway. Decent player, willing runner, good industry and all the rest but probably lacks the necessary quality for United to really challenge at the top level again. Would be good for their squad, but just not at that price.

Rice I think is a much better option, even at double the price. He's got everything in his game and is consistently one of West Ham's top performers and you usually see his name near the top of the metrics for a lot of aspects related to a holding midfielder, which is what United need at this point.

posted on 6/12/21

He's a good player, but does he take us to the level of competing for the major honours?

posted on 6/12/21

Well he is better than Grealish and City are doing fine. Mainly because they don't play Grealish.

Rice plays a position we’d be better targeting, but 100m for him?! No chance.

That just seems to be the going rate for players. I don't actually think it would be £100m, but I wouldn't be massively surprised given that's what Grealish went for.

There are very few players worth £100m based on ability, but I'd pay whatever it would take to sign Rice if I was United.
