Robertson's was the correct use of VAR:
From the Premier League website:
"If the VAR feels the referee has made a clear and obvious error in only cautioning a player, rather than sending him off, they can advise the referee to watch the incident again in the Referee Review Area."
Peter Walton in The Times argues that the Kane decision was also the correct one:
“What saves the England striker is that Robertson’s foot was not planted. The Liverpool man’s raised leg limited the force of the tackle and convinced Tierney that there was no serious foul play. Both a booking AND a red card are justifiable, therefore the referee did not make a clear and obvious error, and VAR was correct not to intervene.”
Interesting discussion points, certainly not a cut and dried reason to froth at the mouth about refereeing standards

They had a contentious one the game before as wel didn’t they?
“What saves the England striker is that Robertson’s foot was not planted. The Liverpool man’s raised leg limited the force of the tackle and convinced Tierney that there was no serious foul play. Both a booking AND a red card are justifiable, therefore the referee did not make a clear and obvious error, and VAR was correct not to intervene.”
This is essentially saying Kane's challenge was so bad and late that Robertson had time to react and save himself from potentially serious injury. What is wrong with the referees in this country?
Robertson foul was could have also been a booking or red card so don't understand why it was a clear and obvious error but Kane's wasn't. Why can't the referees just have some accountability, it's the first step towards them actually getting better.
