Yeah actually agree with him. It’s not just the 2 cup comps but the increase in international football and tournaments means players rarely get a break.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Get rid of the stupid number of international breaks then. They're always rubbish anyway.

I like to wear dead rubber in the bedroom.

Don't judge me.

And how is ‘the wife’??
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Made of rubber. Takes a bit of effort the blow up though. Doesn’t move a lot.

There are probably blokes out there who play 3 games on a weekend for their local team. 3 games in 8 days should not be a problem for an elite "athlete". In those circumstances training sessions in between matches are not necessary unless they are purely tactical.
They don't even have to clean their own boots and take their turn at washing the team's kit.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I’m my early 20’s I played Saturday and Sunday - mostly 90 mins. Power league on Wednesday, 3 x football practice on a Tuesday, and on the pizz on a Friday. This on top of a fairly demanding job and because I lived on my own - house work and eating like a student. I never felt tired before or during a match - and I played CM and the Saturday was a county wide standard, Sunday was dog chit standard.

I’ve never understood players “tiredness” - the manager could make training less intensive if necessary
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I used to play Saturday afternoon (either football or cricket), Sunday morning and then 6 a side Sunday evening pretty much all year round. As well as drinking Friday and/or Saturday nights and playing mid week 6 a side. Used to handle it fine.

Now I'm in my 30s I'm exhausted just thinking about it. Just sport on a Saturday these days with the odd mid-week 6 a side.

It's almost as if professional football and a kick about on a Saturday and a Sunday are two entirely different things.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Which would be relevant if I was suggesting Premier League footballs play 3 games a weekend.

Ah OK. The reply was to others. Nevermind.

Pros get paid to train for this, they have the best sport science on hand and are supposed to be elite level athletes.

I could do this on pizza, Jack Daniels and about 4 hours sleep.

And the fact they have the best of the best around them and that managers are saying that they shouldn't be playing so much maybe suggests that they are getting that info from the people that you mention?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

All I’m saying is that t never harmed me, these guys need to man up a bit - it’s 90 mins, they can sleep the rest of the day if they want.

I used to spend about 15 hours in pubs and clubs between Friday- Sunday at that age as well as competing at a decent standard on a Saturday

Cutting back on international football is definitely where the biggest saving could be made in terms of number of games and their distribution.

Putting Premier League games on those weekends would spread out the load. I'm pretty sure most football fans would probably rather watch their team play at the weekend than England play San Marino on a Friday night too.

posted on 24/12/21

It's the international calendar that needs to be cut down. Getting rid of meaningless games against teams like San Marino and Andorra would be a start, freeing up 4 weeks or so in the fixture list.

posted on 24/12/21

It would give Harry Kane some concerns about whether he can pad out his international goal stats though. And Harry Maguire pause for though about when he can next cup his ears at all his doubters after scoring a header against one of the bottom ranked nations.

Don’t see the issue with what he’s said, even if I don’t agree with scrapping the league cup. I’ve not much sympathy for any of the premier league clubs given the standard of the academies and their vast wealth.

As much as anything in terms of fixtures there needs to be a better way to incorporate international football and during a pandemic to cancel for the time being

They play squad or academy players and are accused of not taking the comp seriously and undermining the integrity of it though.

And yet the big clubs still win it every season.
