They sell millions of replica shirts though, that’s all that matters

Both clubs have spent similar amounts of money since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 but the gap is so BIG. why?

a fascinating question that has never been posed on here, and is sure to attract a wealth of stimulating responses from opposition fans

I'm not sure half the squad having covid was the "rest" than some people think it was!

The gap cam be summarised by one player.

Harry Maguire

United seem very reticent about saying who actually had Covid.

Half the spurs squad had covid, came back and ran their @rses off against us.

To use covid as an excuse for that last night is clutching. Your lads thought they could just turn up and the job would take care of itself. The attitude in your squad stinks and its fairly clear to see game in game out.

It is surprising to learn as it's a taboo subject to Sky and BT.

I'm never sure if you are a wum or stupid.
But to be clear, City were more or less a poor to mid table club until the current owners came.
They spent an awful lot of money, new money, not earned on past success. That money got them and kept them near the top of the table.
They are 'now a very well run club with imo the best manager in the world.
The gap is large because we aren't well run.
But you always talk as if you would be where you are now without the new ish money

Ronaldo ego is the problem you shouldn’t have wasted another money on a journey man.

posted on 28/12/21

Actually Bufon and Chiellini were quoted the other day saying Ronaldo destroyed their identity and will do the same to you. The man is so egoistical I wonder if some United players actually like him, he’s toxic.

just when you thought you'd seen it all on here, we now have a poster referring to ronaldo as a "journey man"

This. It is not just about spend but spend wisely, with a coherent, believable plan. If you are going to pay top wage you have to be 110% certain the player is worth it, will work for it and build the whole strategy (I know) of the club around those few players because they have nowhere else to go after receiving that top wage.

MU - fckd up player signings, fckd up manager employment, no clear strategy around either other than spunk money. Any martian landing would assume MU are the lottery winners and not MC.

You actually said the same thing. Both of you say the gap is because United is badly run (because of the Glazers). I just disagree with how he phrased it is all

So is the point Chelsea and City are well-run clubs? Lets forgot the managers for a minute. Chelsea changes managers every other season and are the most successful club this decade.

We have something that money can't buy: More fans in China than you have. And after all, is that not what football is all about? Why do clubs do pre season tours? Why do clubs spend so much on advertising? Why is the EPL so aggressively marketed? Is any of this so that a club can win a league cup? No, it's to get fans in China because there are so many people and so much money. That's what modern football is all about and we are the best at it. City are still trying to catch up with old football which we completed in the 90s. A whole generation behind who think that football is played on the pitch. We played maybe 7 seconds of football on the pitch yesterday, yet all of the newspapers are talking about us. When city can achieve that, then they will have closed the gap to us slightly.
