I must admit Saiss has won me over. I saw him as a weak link in the defence, far too reckless. Now he is well worthy of his place in the team. I must say though Killman is a real surprise, from a player barely given a game under Nuno, He really does look every bit a top Prem defender.

See what I mean about transfers Cinci? not easy to call.

Yeah Cinci, just what is it you can't grasp? It really isn't as easy as you make out.

Constant stories in the media about Traore being sold and you can’t help feeling a contract would have been signed by now if he wanted to stay. I’d be sorry to see him leave but it may well be the plan to let him go to fund new signings.

His contract runs out in the summer of 2023 and it’s surprising that more isn’t being said about the future of Moutinho and Saiss whose contracts run out at the end of June this year.

Would Moutinho want to stay and would he sign a year extension if offered. He has been linked with a retirement season back in Portugal or even to the MLS. Or maybe he feels it’s time to set off on his coaching career. Either way it must be make your mind up time. He will be 36 in September so at the very least we need to bring another midfielder in to take the weight off him playing every week.

Saiss has had the best season of his career so it would be a surprise if contract talks hadn’t happened. But with no contract signed maybe he has other plans for his future. He is eligible now to sign a pre contract agreement for another club so surely a decision needs to be taken with him when he returns from ACON

The PL home fixture I least look forward to every single season. Wolves are by far the dullest team I have seen at OT without a doubt. Maybe now you have a new manager you'll actually come to play some football. You really should try to as we're nothing special at the moment.

I agree it will be close game. I'm going to go with a nervy and hard fought 2-1 home win but if it ended all square I wouldn't be shocked at all.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So the dullest team in the league were on show & what a show it was, hardly dull at all, matched ushited in possesion stats but completely outplayed them - only 2 teams out there tonight, The Wolves showed what teamwork is like, the Ref & his Assistants actually worked as a team & then we also had 11 overpaid, whinging "superstars" playing for themselves, lovely evening's entertainment

Great result today and I thought the ref had a good game, despite the criticism prior to kick off. Neves just about get's my MoM and I hope Moutinho stays on for at least another season and doesn't go into management yet. Both he and Saiss are definitely worthy of contract extensions, if they wish to stay. Not sure why some on here want them released in the summer.

As I read somewhere over the weekend, imagine if we'd signed Ruben Dias when we had the chance, our back three now would be Kilman, Coady and Saiss.

Saiss has definitely earned a contract extension if he wants it.

Moutinho is a more difficult one. From a Wolves perspective, he is one of the highest earners at the club. Him leaving would free up £100,000 per week in wages, which is no small amount. If we have a few midfielders lined up for the transfer window, then it could be the right time to say goodbye. If we only have one midfielder lined up and Moutinho is willing to take a drop in wages, then a year extension makes sense. In my opinion, the worst thing we could do is sign him on another £100,000 a week deal and not strengthen the midfield in the summer.

That is without considering what Moutinho's wishes are. There is a lot of nuances in the decision on what to do with him. I would like him to stay another year personally as I think he is an excellent influence at the club, but the deal really needs to be right for that to happen.

Tamwolf, excellent post. What anyone else thinks, There is plenty to consider when offering players contracts. The deal has to be right. the wrong deal can do more harm than good,

Got it

Right deals = Good

Wrong deals = Bad

I think even Cinci might be able to keep up with this?

People miss the point with the Silva signing. It has already cost us because we had to take a step back after signing him and neglected the here and now when we were the seventh best side in the country. We would have made far more money had we managed to get into the top six any time soon, that ship has now sailed.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
You do know Leicester won the league, and then sacked the manager that achieved that the following season? The simple way some on here think, is mind boggling.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So trying to strengthen from a position of strength foolish.

Signing a kid for 35 million sensible.

Yeah, the logic is smacking me in the face

Eh? Saiss was clearly very good from day one, don't be fooled by Lambert.

The trick is to recognise the wrong deals and walk away. Maybe deals like sanchez? which so many seemed upset by. Or possibly recognising deals like Silva, and making them part of your long term plan.

Spending money is easy. spending it wisely is the hard part.

Just going over it now, and have to say it makes sense. I am going as far as emailing the club actually and to be honest we all should, it is a huge oversight by them not realising this groundbreaking strategy.

The point is in principle it is easy, in practice it is hard.

Which is why so many clubs get it wrong. Wolves so far have done pretty well.

Nuno Espirito Santo is close to a return to Tottenham as Academy Director.
Replacing current Director Dean Rastrick.
His contract will run until 2024.

I have been a great fan of Saiss from day one. There were some posters on here, mainly DJ who rubbished him saying and I quote "A disaster waiting to happen and he will get sent off all the time"
Amiga says I have come round to him, the great expert who recognises talent ?
He for me has been player of the season, so far, Kilman a close second.

posted on 4/1/22

I'd probably put Kilman, Neves and Sa above Saiss in player of the season running, but he deserves to be in the conversation.

When have I ever made that claim? I have my opinions, the same as everyone else. But that is all.

posted on 4/1/22

Boston,I have criticised Saiss in the past and I wouldn’t make him a contender for player of the season because in the early part of the season he had a few below par games. Over the season I think Kilman and Coady have been more consistent, although Saiss has been very good in the last couple of months. But inventing a comment like ‘he will get sent off all the time’ and then saying you are quoting me, is below the belt

posted on 4/1/22

A number of press reports saying Wolves are back in for Doherty which I do find surprising if true. Semedo is doing fine now for me and I think Hoever will get better. Suppose Doc could act as cover if Hoever is seen more as a centre back in the future

posted on 4/1/22

Spangles, to be fair there was plenty about Saiss to be critical of. I doubt there were many who would be planning on him being a long term solution to the centre half position, especially with Boly also part of the squad.

But apparently, the likes of Boston and Cinci, always had him pencilled in for that position. Who knew

posted on 4/1/22

When we got promoted I said I would be prepared to let Saiss go as I couldn’t see him making a Premier League midfielder. I did add that if he had a future with Wolves it would be as a defender, but cinci told me I was talking rubbish. So one way or another Saiss has proved all of us wrong.
