I never said that, I said there were people who were considering developing a model (for xG) which was player dependent
———
As in xg for Salah would be judged differently to xg for Welbeck?

Sounds like a good idea if done well. As you know, that’s an issue I’ve got with some of these stats.

I like the idea of that as well. Giving the same xG score to Salah and Welbeck, or same xA to Messi and Traore is clearly flawed.

I think it would be more their go-to finishes. Salah's would be adjusted for a cut-insde left foot attempt. Andy Carroll for a headed chance, Welbeck for a scuffed attempt etc.

What I remember of Trippier is that he couldn't defend, couldn't beat anyone, and put in one decent cross in 20. Amazing what a couple of years does to supporters, now thinking Trippier is like the 2nd coming.

Yeah but tbf Sandy, you rated Aurier
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Aurier was a level up on Trippier, mate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He really wasn’t mate. He was a total liability; poor crosser, went in file rash challenges when there was no danger, got sent off a few times, did foul throws etc etc

xA is just calculated by the person who passed to the xG amount.

That sounds hilariously complicated

Just? This is from one of theAnalyst.com.

Stats Perform’s expected assists model is built using a logistic regression model that is powered by hundreds of thousands of passes from our historical Opta data and incorporates a number of variables that affect the likelihood of a given pass becoming an assist, the most important of which are listed below:

Type of pass (e.g., cross, non-cross, header, through ball etc)
Pattern of play (e.g., open play, corner, free kick, throw-in etc)
Location of where the pass is received
Location of where pass is made from
Distance of the pass

He didn't get sent of a few times, gave away no more penalties than any other defender, and didn't give away anymore goals than any other defender, unless you can back it up with facts. Oh and scored more goals than most of our defenders in recent years.

In all competitions he got sent off twice for us, and scored six goals in his four seasons, making 13 assists so 19 goal contributions in total. He wasn’t bad going forward, usually against weaker teams where he didn’t have to worry so much about defending. His biggest flaw was his rashness. He gave away 4 pens in his first two seasons, not sure how many he gave away in his second two but I think it was more than that - wouldn’t be surprised if he’d given double figures worth of pens away, not to mention lots of cheap free kicks around the box. He had very little defensive discipline, I was not a fan of his whatsoever.

three foul throws in one game. has to be a record for any level.

Yeah in a game away at Palace. Absolutely ridiculous

Having said that, you see a lot of instances in football which should be given as foul throws but are overlooked.

I actually think Aurier had some good games, but you always feared at any moment he might do something daft like give away a needless penalty or get sent off.
