Harv to do anything with a team that looks unwilling to change or learn or even fight. Add that to the fact we haven’t got a midfielder

I agree but why persist with Fred, McTominay or Matic then?

They say insanity is repeating the same thing again and again and expect a different result.

Play Donny in there for a run of games, play someone out of position in there, anything.

What is the realistic alternative? I agree DVB should have more game time but I see him as a replacement for Bruno, not playing alongside a McT or a Matic.

What did you actually expect though? He is a man who talks a big game but has nothing to back it up with. All this talk of being the father of Klopp & Tuchel was laughable. He is a DoF and not a manager. The best football you played was when Carrick was in charge.

It's clear the job will be difficult to anyone who's going to take it on. With that in mind I'm kind of glad we have an interim who seems to be staying on upstairs afterwards. If all he does is make the 'unpopular' decisions now on who to let go and leave the new guy a clean slate I think it will have been worth it. When he moves upstairs he'll also have a clear idea of what we've got in the squad and what we need which will be a step forward from previous years.

We haven't played well at all it has to be said however, having said that, his domestic record reads as Played 6 Won 4 Drew 1 Lost 1. Not terrible by any means and we've yet to concede more than one goal in a game with him.

What is remarkable though is how poor a lot of the squad are with the very basics. I think our performances would have 'looked' a lot better had we played the right pass at the right time.

He's still to convince me he can get us playing really well this season but I do think he needs to be given a chance to make the big changes he's trying to make.

I must agree that so far from what I have seen from Ralf is that as a football director he talks a good game but as a football manager he hasnt yet delivered one.

The players havent got a clue what to do and some look like they dont even care.

Villa with Cortiniou (however you spell it) will paste us.

It just baffles me how poor things have become all over the pitch.

There was a moment last night at the end of the 1st half where we won it high up the pitch and had acres of space. Rashford had the ball on the right and put in a fairly average ball to Cavani who had space but took an age to control the ball almost falling over it in the process, he then layed it back to Bruno who tried a silly outside of the boot shot that went high and wide.

It was comedy and these guys are meant to be top players.

He did name check Donny after last night's game so maybe he will get that start at the weekend everyone has been calling for.

Ralf claiming that all is ok with Rashford is just lip service. Of course there are troubles with Rashford. And it is his job to sort it out.

Like Bielsa, it's the innovator who had an impact on managers who went on to be better than himself. Almost a reverse of Fergie.

Hopefully but you just know unless Donny puts in a really good performance he won’t be seen again for weeks.

Realists realised the reality that the real issues were with the players.

Some of whom can be forgiven because they were, and still are being, asked to play out of position - and in a ludicrous shape.

And that's down to a complete loss of footballing direction.

For the past 14 months United have basically been playing 7/4 football instead of 5/6 football. And that is NOT the way to play the game full stop. And it most definitely is not a feature of the Busby to Ferguson era.

4 Defenders, and a player that has the bonus of being the only player that can handle the ball, should always balance out the opposition front 6.

I acknowledge the game now favours creative/attacking players now more than ever but 5 v 6 (with the hand use option) is still the right choice. But the defenders (especially both full backs HAVE to be able to defend and the goalkeeper has to have the intelligence to make the right decisions.

United are severely lacking in that.

If Ronaldo still has a knock I wouldn't be too averse to seeing a 433 with Fred, Matic/Jones and VDB in it with two wide players (two of Rashford, Sancho, Elanga, Lingard, Greenwood) either side of Bruno in the False 9 role.

I think we have to be realsitic and understand that the club are in a pretty bad place and no manager was likely to come in and make big changes in such a short time if the club wanted a different direction to what he had before.

Also, the fact players have seemingly downed tools and underperformed for all 4 previous managers would make me think that there is a deep rooted issue with the squad which is something that also isn't going to be fixed quickly.

Rangnick clearly isn't some kind of managing genius, he's a man who revolutioned German football and is highly regarded for his innovation. He has come in and wants to implement a system that he strongly believes in (and who the board should have been fully aware he would want to implement) and it's very much at odds with how the players where coached before so again this is something that is going to take time for the players to follow. Maybe he's been a little naive with it but I think/hope that he is putting the players through quite a different way of doing things that may have shocked some.

If we want change then we need to be patient, if anyone thought Rangnick was going to come in and everyone was able to follow his high intensity pressing game (with the squad we have) then they're being increadibly naive. We just have to hope that the club bringing in Rangnick is just the first phase of a long term plan that they have thought long and hard about and that the manager that comes in over the summer has some kind of appreciation of what Rangnick wants so that the transition makes sense rather than all the managerial appointments we made before.

I don’t disagree with the formation but hate seeing Matic in the side these days. He plays at walking pace and while he has a good pass in him he’s far too lazy and casual.

Villa will be up for it and will be on top for periods I would expect so I think Ronaldo will be a passenger in this game if he plays.

I’ve come to the conclusion that Rangnik will struggle due to all the constraints on him. Fletcher clearly forced on him and being his senior. Huge conflicts of interest there. The players being a mess and in terrible form.

Now you’re just making up stories.

Our midfield is the problem. No successful team has ever had a poor midfield.

We’ve got so many surplus players on ridiculous wages it’s unreal.

Keano summed this lot up - they will trow you under the bus.

McT, Fred, Matic, Maguire, AWB, Bailly, Lindelof (Varane gets off for now), Rashford, Greenwood (currently), Martial, Lingard, Mata, Dean Henderson, Pogba (has been out for a total of two full seasons apparently?!), Bruno (for a while now but his numbers buy him time)

Players out of that who simply are not good enough to be a title challenging regular:

Hmmmm Pogba and Bruno are probably the only exceptions? Maybe Rashford if he gets back to form

At what other club is the assistant director also a part of the coaching staff? Why why why? What’s the reasoning? Big shambles. It’s like me answering to my manager and then at the same time managing my manager 😂😂
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Fletcher's job title seems very misleading when you read what is attributed to his actual role. I think there's a real issue with the confusion fluidity and confused thinking in the structure of the footballing operation but there's no evidence to suggest that Fletcher is putting constraints on Rangnick. More likely, they ended up with a lack of knowledge about the players in the backroom staff, with Carrick and Mckenna leaving, and Rangnick requested Fletcher's presence because he rates him more than Phelan.

I'm more than happy to work with the current coaching staff because I need their experience, I need their expertise regarding the current squad.
