Eriksen return?

Rumours is that Brentford will sign him

posted on 17/1/22

I’m not against him coming back to train and having a look at him , what’s there to lose

We have no intention (it seems) in playing Dele and Ndombele and a fit and interested Eriksen is better than both

There’s the problem though….how fit is he and how fit can he be ?!

Worries me a a disastor waiting to happen. Don't wish anything like that on anyone.

Also Conte did not fancy him at Inter. Did he not spend a lot of time on the bench and coming on as a sub for him.

We forgetting how demotivated he was before he was sold.

Always respect what he did for us but signing Eriksen would be very weak. We avoided Coutinho but sign Eriksen?

I think there are many better options for our midfield. Paratici needs to get to work

Surely if we show interest we'd be first choice? If he's going to Brentford it's because we don't want him which is just nuts. If the rumours about us not having much money, if any, this month are true then Levy should be swimming all the way to Copenhagen to get him to sign if he has to. I don't get it. I really don't.

I understand the idea of us moving on and he'll never recapture his glory days with us but what are the affordable alternatives?

I'm staggered there isn't even a sniff of interest. He's declared himself fit to restart, more importantly his doctors have too. I don't really understand the nervousness, assuming that is the reason for our lack of interest.

He can come and train here if he wants and we can have a look at him, but honestly, in his condition playing in a more intense league, when he hasn't been at his best for years, would we get much out of him?

Are there though? In our price range?

On his day he's a £60-70m playmaker. We should be judging him based on his form for 7 years, not one solitary year where he was looking for a fresh challenge. Trust me, he's way better, way, way, way better than anything we could afford at this current time.

I think we need to forget the Eriksen that left ….he was trying not to get injured ….it was shat to watch him pull out of everything and his closing down became non existent

This would be at the very least an Eriksen who wanted to play for Tottenham again

There are too many question marks over his health though and at what level could he return to

For the record I wanted Coutinho

I’m losing faith in Paratici already

if hes defo able to play without any risk to himself then yes sign him. He 100% better than anything we have at the moment.

That's why he's only being offered a six month deal, even by Brentford. It's not a gamble as you're not putting up a 5 year commitment. An Eriksen with something to prove in a World Cup year is a dangerous prospect for the opposition. This could be a masterstroke from Thomas Frank if he pulls it off.

Yep, I'd have liked Coutinho too but I think the Gerrard thing was always gonna sway things.

Oh, and for the record - I've already lost faith in Paratici. Not one of his signings has convinced me yet. Not one. Romero has yet to play enough games to be judged but he looks decent I guess. Other than that, we've signed a bunch of donkeys. Emerson is just a joke. I called it after his first game. He's hopeless going forward and he can't pass for shiiiiit. Meanwhile, Tomiyasu, who Paratici turned down for a cheaper price than ER, is doing well at Arsenal. Then there's Gollini and Gil.

Only Spurs would hire a high profile coach and DOF and then proceed to do nothing

I will say I like Emerson but as a fullback

But not to sign Tamiyasu seems a huge error

Spurs signed the only Brazilian FB in the history of football who's crap going forward and then proceed to play him as a WB.... Nice job

I don't. He's a throwback to a dying era. The role has evolved more than any other in the last 10 or 15 years. If we want to start dominating games we need full backs / wing backs to offer a lot more going forward. It's no coincidence that the best teams in the league have the very best full back - Walker / Cancelo, Robertson / TAA, James / Chilwell. All of these names are known for their attacking prowess. The days of the deep lying full back are long gone. Personally I think the guy is the worst one we've had in a long time. I'd like a complete reset and splash the cash on Lamptey as if we get the wing back positions right, the whole team can play further up the pitch. Playing Doherty on the left and ER on the right is just completely devoid of any attacking intent. Those roles are so vital now, in every team, yet in five years we've gone from having the best in the league to some of the worst.

Tomiyasu is just as old fashioned as Emerson. He's more of a centre back than a full back

Yeah, I'm not saying he was the answer either, which is why I said Lamptey. I'm just making the point that we could have signed someone cheaper in Tomiyasu who, whilst admittedly conservative himself, is still a more refined, technical player than Royal. He can control a ball and pass it straight for starters.

I think Emerson is a pretty good passer. His problem is that he can't beat a man and has pretty mixed delivery at best. Obviously need to upgrade there but I think he's a really solid backup.

When was his last good season? Genuine question - I know he wasn't great in his final season with Spurs but no idea how good he was the year before.

It's got to be almost 4 yrs ago now surely? And with the horrible scare at the Euros, it must have left some mental scarring. It would on anyone.

I liked Eriksen, even though he played for Spurs he's the type of creative player you love to watch. I just can't see him playing for a big club again tbh.

Like alot of players in the later stages of Poch time his form fell off a cliff (let's not forget he rarely started for Inter) and if you chuck in a heart condition I think its clear we should leave well alone.

posted on 17/1/22

I’m not gonna lie but I’d be scared shatless watching him play. Can you imagine the psychological impact that could have on players and fans if he dropped dead mid game ?

Eriksen you’ve had only lucky escape don’t temp fate , you’ve got millions and a family call it a day.

His last season was the only poor season for us , which is when he made his mind up to go

Before that he was always exceptional

He was never a great tackler (bit of a wimp really) but his work rate to close people down was very under appreciated and he was perfect in a press

He always picked the right pass too ….very intelligent footballer

I agree though I don’t see him playing in a big league let alone a big club again but I hope he does

I think you lot would be mad not to give him a pay as you play contract and see how it goes. He certainly won't care about money now.

Yes he downed tools towards the end when Levy wanted too much money to sell him at first, but so has Kane to a certain extent.

Such a class player who's departure certainly was the start of your slide downwards.

Nothing to lose and everything to gain. If we needed him (wouldn't fit in our system), I'd jump at the chance.
