Rice underrated?

He’s a level up on anything United have had since Michael Carrick retired. Do you need a philosophy? A multilevel synchronised 74-part plan? Maybe you just need Declan Rice.

Praise indeed, so are our fans underestimating Rices ability, and if so, why?

. He glides, he whispers, he trots and frolics.

Have you been on the pizz again?

Claims Rice is underrated....

Quotes a sports journo saying he was the "best player on the pitch by some distance"....

If anything, he's being overpraised. He was good at mopping up danger around the box, but he was no better or worse than any UTD player, imho.

We always look like we have no centre. I don't think Rice can take credit for that

Christ, did someone actually write that?

What a pretentious prat

Not sure whether he’s underrated or overrated by the mass but speaking personally, I think he’s a brilliant player who will look even better when he’s playing for a big side as he won’t be spending his whole game putting out fires and instead will be able to be more dynamic and expressive. Miles better than what we currently have. Not sure who he’d work well alongside better out of Fred or McT. Probably Fred and Bruno in a 3.

I think he's a decent player and that's it. It would take 85m minimum to get him and he's not worth that type of cash.

posted on 23/1/22

He is a good player, he would improve us.
But I don't think he was the best player on the pitch, let alone by some distance.
I thought McT was as good.
I also think a hundred million is too much. More like 50 to 60 mill.

I do think there are many people who won’t appreciate him just as some didn’t appreciate Carrick.

I don't get the hype myself and he's worth nowhere near 85 million imo

I didnt claim anything.

I asked if our fans are underrating him.

His valuation is down to a few things. Age, potential, importance to the buying side, contract length at club he’s currently at etc

There aren’t many midfielders around that tick as many boxes as him and he’s still improving season on season.

posted on 23/1/22

Robb, you can't possibly think he was clearly the best player on the pitch, yesterday?

It's not about over/under rating him on the whole... just yesterday. He was controlled and calm, i like that... mopped up most everything.. But that's pretty much all he did. He's had way, way better games.

Exactly.

And how often do clubs sign players for what they are thought to be worth?

For context would you be happy with us signing Rice this summer?

I think we need to get over this 'we need this player for 80m plus' before we can challenge.

Ten Hag took a team worth less than Harry Maguire to the CL semi finals.

I'd much rather have a world class manager.

Making comments like these

"He’s a gliding run-pass funnel. He’s a defensive superconductor. He’s a strolling ball-magnet"

You are yourself overpraising the guy.
I watched the game yesterday, Rice was no better than Fred, who gets so much grief but the guy is in the right place at the right time, and his team-mates seem to rate him a lot, as they all give him the ball all the time.

In the context of the role he was playing - the away side who came for a draw and he performed his role perfectly. Didn’t make a single mistake and cleaned up like peak Carrick. I can’t say whether he was the best player on the pitch as his task was different to the United players tasks so you can’t really compare. But I’m sure he’d be a massive upgrade on what we have as he is just a different level to McT and Fred.

It’s not an either/or situation. A club as big as ours should have a world class manager and big name signings to compliment the youth ones.

I don't think anyone uses the players potential value as the criteria for who we do and dont need.

PL clubs fleece us every single time. Westham won't let him go for anything less than a British club record.

These transfers are not sustainable.

Are you suggesting we buy lesser players so they are cheaper?

We seem to be using the Harry Maguire signing as a new measuring stick for whataboutery on this site. Pretty stupid imo. It’s become the new ‘we tried world class managers and they failed so let’s stick with Ole’ mantra.

Correlation does not imply causation.
