The yellow submarine
I expect Liverpool to make light work of them still but nice to see Emery upgrade from good ebening to great ebening.
A fantastic achievement for the club. They wont end up winning it, but for them I don't think that even matters, the journey they've had knocking out Bayern & Juventus is astounding.
Hopefully they can spring an upset against the scousers

True. But by your logic Oldham Athletic are not a small club because they're a suburb of Manchester?

Looking at the map, it is actually a suburb of Valencia, Madrid and Barcelona. So about 20 times the size of our small village near Manchester.

Change your name back to whatever it used to be so I know who the idiot saying this is.
Villareal
Apparently only one team has beaten them in this season's CL. And they did it twice! Dunno who that team is but they must be pretty amazing so props to them too
They're a well-organised outfit, one of the better defensive units I've seen at OT this season.
Liverpool should breeze past them though.
I’ve been to Villareal a few times. Even the day before we bought Bailly off them which was a weird coincidence as I don’t think we were even rumoured to be in for him as far as I remember. It’s a very small town north of Valencia and a nice train ride on the way to Castellon.
They’ve done remarkably well considering their size. Usually have good managers which helps a lot who can get the best out of the cast offs they bring in for peanuts.

I know right. I’d still be walking
They're extremely well run financially. They've got elite-level facilities, a very strong youth setup, and are to break the €20M mark in the transfer market, which is quite remarkable for a team in the CL semis.
When the 2008 financial crisis hit, they also became the first team (in Spain at any rate) to extend free season tickets to any previous ST holders who'd been made redundant that year.
They kept that scheme going for three or four years, and even today I think they offer big discounts, 50% or 75% iirc, to any st holder unfortunate enough to lose their job from one season to the next.
Great club. The only thing I resent them for is for stealing Cádiz's Yellow Submarine nickname.
They'll be a tough opposition for Benfica in the semis
I'd obviously like to see them get to the final but I'd be amazed if that were anything other than City v Liverpool.
Atletico could easily knock City out, so we would all be supporting Liverpool against the Spanish 3.
They are a grate club. I was glad if we lost the Europa final last year it was going to be to them.

Atletico Madrid have been a sort of lifelong second team of mine for a few days.
They'll probably end up tougher opponents to Liverpool than Bayern because they won't leave as much space. Liverpool should be beating them relatively comfortably though. Even we managed to beat them twice this season so it'd be a major shock, and quite embarrassing, if Liverpool can't get past them.

It's not. However, Villarreal is 7km away from, and basically merges into, the larger town of Castellón de la Plana, which has a population of 174,000. The total urban area is something more akin to Norwich: still an outlier in the late stages of European competition.

Same, despite utterly despising them both, I've always wanted Atletico and Villareal to win in Europe since March this year.
I know it's only vaguely connected to this post (he played at the Bernabeu and scored a hatrick in Munich) but came across this video again today and it always makes me laugh - https://twitter.com/classicshirts/status/1248627136161701888?s=20&t=BqlXAidxGpEoqwDrpbzq7A
