‘ But if an offer came in for Kent it would need t be considerably higher than the fee we paid.’

I don’t think it does, and I don’t think it will-even more so now that he’s coming into the final year of his contract.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We rejected 10m for him last season, so clearly would’ve had to be.

Puts us in a spot this summer over what value we get, but then would expect more interest after his season.

If you can get double hat we paid for Kent from both Ajer and Edouard in the last year of their deals we can better the 7m we paid.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Won’t be ‘considerably’ more for me though.

I reckon £7 million to £10 million, tops.

Going into the last season of his contract now-and I think his stats were more impressive last season. He’s had a couple of good games this season, but he’s not been better than previously.

Only my opinion, clearly.

everybody has an opinion but Id argue that Ajer and Edouard has their poorest seasons in the year previous. Kents numbers may not be as good but in europe especially he has been at his best.

Kent will be 26 though in November. Sure I read that most teams now with their financial models won’t pay big money or anything like that for a player over either 24 or 25 (can’t remember which) if they don’t play on any of the big leagues.

That’s why you got a decent sum for Patterson-his potential.

posted on 26/4/22

I accept there may be or may have been exceptions to this, but that’s what they are-exceptions.

tbf Kent is only a year older than Ajer. most teams in the EPL dont really have a budget model that we can relate to. the big teams throw money about like candy the smaller teams just wanna stay in the league to keep the money rolling and are not really looking at 2/3 years down the line. safe mid table teams are more likely to to be doing this.

I have a feeling Kent will sign a new deal. We will sell Morelos however which is nice to get the money but extremely difficult to replace for less than half than what we will get for him.

Yeah there is sense to what your saying, however Id say one of the factors that would bring up an exception would be their form in europe since that will normally be a higher level than the smaller leagues. And Id argue that his form against better opposition is excellent.

Kent is 25-Ajer was 23 when he left.

No, they do seem to have one now. I’d love to remember where I saw this and the stats on it, but they were pretty conclusive. 24/25 and over from a smaller league were of no interest for big money moves.

Possibly-but even then, it’s only been a couple of games he’s played well in. I think we call for how we want to see our players rather than the bigger picture.

posted on 26/4/22

ultimately it all comes down to who wants the players though and how badly they want them.

Price is just that it doesnt reflect the ability really its just one of many factors

Kent’s performances overall have been more mature, and had bigger performances in Europe this season for me.

Wingers usually go for more money than cbs too. Never mind that 12m is small money for the majority of Prem teams.

Kent has been our best player in europe, much more than a couple of games and over a period of 3 years he has always been one of our best players in europe ... cmon be real.

5 goals and 2 assists in 4 seasons in Europe?

Are those stats correct? Honestly thought he had more.

dunno prob are... he has been excellent in europe, he flourishes in having more space to run into.

he has been the catalyst for so many of our attacks, in europe he prevents teams from playing a high line and pinning us in, if they do play a high line he terrorises them.

Kent and morelos are the main reasons we have done so well particularly this year. the ball sticks with one and the other carries the ball into such dangerous positions.

posted on 26/4/22

I think he’s been good in Europe, but only had a couple of stand out games.

His stats-if they’re true-are pretty poor for a creative player.

Meh. See what happens.

posted on 26/4/22

he has been better than good in europe.

tbf the majority of our players have been better than "good" the stats back that up.

we have have been excellent in europe far far better than just good,

we top many of the stat charts for europa,

posted on 26/4/22

just looked at the stats there

top for goals scored and the stats suggest we are the best pressing team in the competition.

Not too often a scottish team gets to talk about being one of if not the best offensive team in the competition

Those are great team stats then.

Kent is a winger who hasn’t scored a lot of goals or assisted a lot in Europe-if his stats are accurate.

I’m sure if a team is looking for a winger who has those attributes but was part of a team that overall had good stats this season, then they’ll be banging your door down.

I think he’s a decent player. He’s not great for an EPL team standard, but I doubt anyone there will pay money for a creative player that realistically has had 1 good season out of 4 in Scotland, and has pushed himself to play well in a couple of European games this season.

I really could be well wide of the mark though-I genuinely concede that.

posted on 26/4/22

You may not be wide of the mark in terms of interest or where he goes, but you’re so far wide of the mark it’s deluded if that’s an honest assessment of his time at Rangers

He has excellent stats for dribbles completed, distance covered, effots on goal. He is part of one of the best attacking teams in the competition.

Granted you dont always get the best picture for the body of work that players get through, rather than just what the camera shows you.

for eg didnt think Jota was a hard worker id have thought the opposite from what I have seen, but I dont watch him as much as people like yourself and certainly not in the flesh at the game. But if those who do (and are not timmy) say he is a grafter I will take their word for it, they are better to judge.

I think Kent will do a very good job for any mid table team in the EPL.

he has bulked up a lot, plays lots of games. Is a very good presser of the ball, and can do it all day and night. (braga followed by Celtic is a perfect example of that. the ground he covered in they two games for the full 120 in both was as good as impressive as I have seen from any player ever to play for us.

He is tricky and can exploit space.

He would get more space in EPL than he does up here. Hard working, great attitude, plays loads of games, skillfull, shows up in big games. Id say there are plenty of teams in the EPL that would go for that.

For a £7 million pound player who can do all these things that whodunnit says, I think he’s had 1 good season, 1 decent season and 2 fairly average overall seasons. He’s had some really good games in there-completely agree. For a creative player, he’s not got a very good goals or assist total overall.

I don’t think you’ll get what folk think you’ll get for him.

i think we can get 12-14m for him.

had a great season in europe and the other thigs that whacks a good bit of value is that he is a homegrown english player to help them fullfill their quota

The first paragraph is nonsense. Second is fair, but we’ll see.
